Jackson Hogg is supporting one of the leading global marine insurers on their search for a an FP&A Assistant to join their Newcastle team

This opportunity is to join the Finance department as a Financial Planning and Analysis Assistant at our Newcastle office. In this exciting role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring accurate reconciliation of monthly credit card and travel spend statements, authorisation forms, and expense receipts. You will be responsible for preparing and posting journals to the accounting software. Your attention to detail and strong organisational skills will contribute to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the overall finance function.

Key responsibilities will include:
**Corporate credit card**:

- Perform monthly reconciliations of corporate credit card spend and accompanying expense receipts to identify discrepancies or errors.
- Validate and verify transactions against supporting documents, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures and taxation (VAT) rules.
- Resolve discrepancies by conducting appropriate analysis, liaising with relevant stakeholders, and making appropriate adjustments.
- Prepare and post journal entries accurately and in a timely manner to record financial transactions into the accounting software.

**Corporate travel account**:

- Perform twice monthly reconciliations of corporate travel account statements, travel authorisation forms and invoices to identify discrepancies or errors.
- Resolve discrepancies by conducting appropriate analysis, liaising with relevant stakeholders, and making appropriate adjustments.
- Prepare and post journal entries accurately and in a timely manner to record financial transactions into the accounting software.
- Arrange payment to corporate travel partner on a timely basis, ensuring that transactions are valid and compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Assist in the budgetary process by providing financial data and insights related to travel spend to support the creation and monitoring of travel budgets.
- Possible assistance in foreign currency process and reconciliations for cover purposes.

**Financial controls and procedures**:

- Maintain organised and up-to-date records of all reconciliations, supporting documents, and related correspondence.
- Assist in the development and implementation of efficient reconciliation process and control measures.
- Generate financial reports and assist in the analysis of financial data to support management decision making.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.

**Commercial projects**:

- Provide support to the finance team and contribute to ad hoc projects and initiatives as required.

**Effective teamwork**:

- Workload is coordinated and managed including effective prioritisation of work and diary management.
- Collaboration with internal teams, such as finance, underwriting, payments team, to obtain necessary documentation and resolve any issues related to reconciliations.

**Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience**
- Problem solving skills to identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, an propose effective resolutions.
- Proficient in using spreadsheet software, such as MS excel to analyse financial data, create reports, and perform calculations.
- Proficient in financial reconciliation techniques and experienced in reconciling statements/invoices/receipts.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders, budget holders, and the finance team.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, managing multiple tasks and prioritising efficiently.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Experience
- Understanding of accounting principles and the ability to prepare and post journals, experience of Sage is advantageous.
