- To assess patient records and notes.
- To accurately abstract and interpret clinical information from clinical records for both inpatient and outpatient activities.
- To translate clinical information using ICD-10 and OPCS4 classifications and input the clinical codes onto Patient Administration System.
- To be fully conversant with the relevant publications of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and Classification of Surgical Operations and Procedures (OPCS4).

An excellent opportunity has arisen to join our professional and progressive team of Clinical Coding team. We are looking for committed team players with excellent interpersonal skills. As a Clinical Coder, you will perform a vital function as part of the Trust's Information Service to ensure that the clinical coding is complete and accurate in a timely manner. You will be responsible for the inpatient and outpatient activities coding within the trust, ensuring that deadlines are met.
- To plan and prioritise own workload to ensure that agreed deadlines are met.
- To work with the Clinical Coding Manager to ensure all coding timescales are met.
- Communicate with a wide range of staff at all levels across the trust to gather and share information.
- To undertake background research as necessary.
- To participate in regular training to ensure that coding skills are continually being broadened and updated, by attending specialty workshops and in-house training as outlined in a personal development plan. To be responsible for maintaining own portfolio of work performance evidence.
- To participate in the departmental process of appraisal and personal development, ensuring that mandatory training is completed as appropriate.
- To participate in the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ) within three years of employment.
- To embrace new ways of working and new technology.
- To undertake any other tasks which come under the Clinical Coding Department remit commensurate with the role.
