We are looking for a **Housing Support Officer** to join our friendly and welcoming Housing team at Hft. This is your chance to make a difference to people's lives.

The role of Housing Support Officer is intensive and works with vulnerable tenants of Hft. It is a rewarding role where no two days are the same and you will be supported by a close knit team, all of whom are passionate about providing the best service possible for our tenants.

**This role is available on a permanent, full time basis covering our north region with most of the work near Newcastle.**

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and knowledgeable Housing Support Officer to provide effective housing management services across a range of activities including rent arrears management, anti-social behaviour, voids management and tenancy management within our supported living schemes. You will be customer-focused and a problem solver, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

**We love to meet someone with**:

- Experience of working in a Housing Officer role and be able to demonstrate strong experience and knowledge of housing management and income recovery experience within local authority and / or housing association.
- Excellent customer service skills putting the customer at the heart of what we do
- Good problem-solving, negotiation and influencing skills
- An understanding of the housing benefit system, universal credit and welfare benefit legislation.
- Experience of liaising with local authority housing benefit team, DWP to resolve payment queries, maximise income and minimise arrears.
- Good knowledge of ASB, Housing Management, housing law and best practice relating to tenancy management, voids and lettings and rent arrears recovery
- A driving licence and access to a vehicle.

**What will you be doing?**
- The main purpose of this role is to perform housing related tasks for Hft's supported living tenants, providing housing related support to people with learning disabilities to enable them to maintain their tenancies and to achieve their aspirations for independent living.
- It is also very important for the successful person to be able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as our Care & Support teams, local authority housing benefits teams, and social services.
- To undertake the lettings process and assist in managing low level rent arrears and the annual rent increase process.
- You will work very closely with our Income Management Officer in dealing with more complex and high level rent arrears.
- To lead on dealing with ASB and tenancy management cases and working very closely with our Care & Support staff team.

**This is a home-based role but travel is required to visit the Newcastle site (once per week, on average) and attend meetings in our Emerson's Green Office in Bristol ( once per month.)**
