You will be joining a small but dynamic safeguarding team who are committed to working closely with colleagues both internally and externally to deliver the safeguarding agenda across all YAS services.

The Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioner will work within the Safeguarding Team to support the Trust to fulfill its duties under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 and to align with the Trust’s core values.

The role will have direct impact across the whole Trust as well as links with regional work across ICBs and other multi-agencies with the ultimate aim of enabling staff to prioritise the safety of victims at high risk of harm from intimate partners, ex-partners or family members.

The specialist domestic abuse practitioner will support the delivery of the YAS domestic abuse strategy by directly supporting staff who are experiencing Domestic Abuse and through developing, leading and coordinating policies, guidance and training across 999, 111 and patient transport services.

As the Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioner, you will support and drive the vision of safeguarding within Yorkshire Ambulance Service and be committed to delivering the highest quality outcomes in your day-to-day work & supporting the wider Trust vision and values.

As part of the role, you may be required to travel across the geographical region of the Trust.

The working hours of the safeguarding team are Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00.

The designated base for this role is the Trust HQ at Springhill, Wakefield, the role will be a hybrid approach to include a blend of office and home working with the need to use online electronic systems such as Microsoft Teams to support this. The home / office split will be negotiable to support the needs of the service.

**The post holder will**:

- Contribute to the development of policy, guidance and standard operating procedures,

interpreting national policy and guidance to ensure best practice is achieved.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with partner agencies at ICB and place level to

ensure that victims and perpetrators receive the right response and support.
- Ensure that referral processes are robust including onward referral to MARAC and specialist

support agencies.
- Monitor the quality and outcomes of referrals through internal and multi-agency audit.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training and strategies to demonstrate the impact of the role.
- Provide data and narrative to the Head of Safeguarding for use in statutory reporting to the

trust board and commissioners.
- Represent YAS at internal and external meetings.
- Deputise for the Named Professional for Safeguarding on matters pertaining to the domestic

abuse strategy as required.
- Support the Paediatric Liaison Nurse and Safeguarding Practitioner to manage cases where

domestic abuse is identified as a risk factor.
- Support the Named Professional for Safeguarding to contribute to domestic homicide

reviews, identifying learning and creating SMART action plans to disseminate and embed
learning.
- Act as an ambassador for safeguarding within the Trust, participating in workstreams with

colleagues as appropriate.
- Provide support and supervision for staff who have worked with domestic abuse cases.
- Provide direct support to staff, students and volunteers who experience domestic abuse

including completion of risk assessment and onward referral. This may include but is not
exclusive to referrals to the multi agency risk assessment conference (MARAC), Women’s Aid
services, police, children’s social care.
- Liaise with the security and risk team to create plans that promote the safety of staff and

patients who are experiencing domestic abuse.
