**Who are we?**

First Rail Consultancy provides specialist services across the public transport sector, particularly in the rail industry. We work closely with other FirstGroup plc businesses including operators Avanti West Coast, Great Western Railway, South Western Railway, Hull Trains, all-electric train operator Lumo and advising DfT on the future operation of HS2. We also provide consultancy services for First Bus, London Trams and external clients.

**First Rail Consultancy** is part of FirstGroup, the largest rail operator in the UK and second largest bus operator in the UK outside London. FirstGroup operates services throughout the UK and Ireland, with over 30,000 employees providing services that make travel smoother and life easier. FirstGroup works hard to reduce its impact on the environment, introducing cleaner and more environmentally responsible methods of transport.

**About the team**

Our consultancy team provides a wide range of services to meet our clients' needs including branding, data analysis, engineering, organisational development, project management, editorial work, and training. We also engage in commercial activity for FirstGroup plc to expand our business, both nationally and internationally. This work encompasses everything from contract bids and business planning to developing software services and new rail routes.

**About the job**

This role builds on our existing expertise in people and organisation development. Over the past three years we have delivered client assignments including, employee engagement planning, people strategy development, people and organisation plans in commercial bids, organisational designs, quality management methods, training design, vocational qualification introduction, and workforce planning. This role will enable us to meet existing customer requirements and grow our business by taking on further assignments and new customers.

**Your main responsibilities will be**:

- To engage with clients to understand and define their people and change objectives, priorities, opportunities and constraints
- To provide expert guidance, developing business processes and operating models
- To produce assignment scopes, options analysis, business cases, proposals, presentations and other reports, often to demanding timescales with restricted information
- To develop people and organisation plans aligned with business plans covering organisational design, governance, stakeholder engagement, communication, consultation and training
- To work closely with finance and operations teams to build workforce plans to calculate staff costs and drive resourcing and training plans
- Produce case studies, gather client testimonials and identify leads for similar assignments

**You'll need to be**:

- Able to analyse complex situations, identify solutions, define and deliver change plans
- A skilled facilitator and coach, developing effective relationships and networks
- A strong communicator, producing high quality reports and presentations at all levels
- Analytical and confident operating in a structured and numerate environment
- Comfortable working to deadlines, often with competing priorities
- someone who views change as an opportunity

**As a minimum, you will need to have**:

- A strong understanding of how to successfully make planned changes in organisations
- Knowledge of both qualitative (cultural) and quantitative (structural) organisational change
- Experience of working on complex, large scale people and/ or organisation projects and programmes
- Skills in delivering complex and business critical projects or workstreams

**About the location**

You'll be based at the Point, Paddington Basin, London

**Working pattern**

37 hrs per week. Travel to other locations will be required dependant on your client assignments
