We are looking for individuals who are self -motivated, enthusiastic and have a distinct passion for caring for woman, babies and their families; to support our mission for continuous improvement in maternity safety and experience.
As part of this role you will be instrumental in supporting the Multi-Disciplinary Team - clinical midwives and medics.
Our Practice Development team will support you in obtaining the skills required to undertake this role, with further development in line with Health Education England: Maternity Support Worker Competency, Education and Career Development Framework.
Applicants will be required to work on a full-time or part-time basis covering Days, nights and weekends.

**Patient Client Care**:
To provide advice as appropriate within own sphere / limitations of practice
To provide care that ensures dignity and the comfort of women is respected.
Provide and ensure understanding of information given to women and their families, using appropriate communication skills to facilitate informed choice within role & responsibilities
Take and record vital signs as requested i.e. temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure, oxygen saturation and Maternity Early Observation Warning Score (MEOWS) on observation charts and to report any abnormalities to the qualified Midwife.
Attend to mothers personal hygiene needs
Answer call bells, establish what the patient requires and either deal with it or refer to midwife
Undertake appropriate escort duties of mothers or babies
Welcome visitors courteously, referring them to the midwife if necessary
Assist with administrative and housekeeping services
Participate in health promotion activities including smoking cessation, diet, breastfeeding and parenting skills
Assist and advise the mother on infant care to enable her to become confident
After demonstrating competency, undertake delegated clinical activities, appropriate to role and responsibilities
Support the midwife in obtaining specimens ensuring accurate labelling in accordance with Trust policy
Maintain clear, accurate, legible and timely written documentation in women’s maternity records under the guidance of a qualified Midwife.
Communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team
Maintain a clean and tidy environment, including bed areas, store cupboards, sluice, treatment room and equipment used for procedures.
Undertake the cleaning of ward equipment, according to policy and procedure. Make effective use of the infection control policy.
Undertake the cleaning of bed areas, suction, oxygen, lockers and prepare for admission, obtaining any essential equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Have the ability and knowledge to deal with a emergency situation.
Ensure that the individual is up to date with mandatory training, statutory mandatory and directorate specific.
To be actively involved in their own self - development.
Enrol on the NVQ Programme in Health Care.
Communication
Report any concerns / incidents relating to patient health, and safety of the environment to an assistant practitioner or qualified nurse, where you think a patient is at risk of falls, pressure sore development, reduced dietary intake or a change of observations or appearance.
Provide clear and concise verbal communication to patients, clients and multi[1]disciplinary teams
Provide clear and concise written documentation as per Trust guidance
