The post-holder will join an enthusiastic and welcoming team of Geriatrician Consultants, in a dynamic and innovative department.

The specialty of Health Care of the Older Person (HCOP) sits managerially within the Division of Medicine alongside Acute Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, Stroke Medicine, Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. The Division of Medicine is split into 3 directorates. HCOP sits within the Integrated Care Directorate with Stroke.

NUH is a Centre of Excellence in the clinical care, teaching and research of Health Care of Older People. We have developed a broad range of subspecialties to meet patient need across the health community and our aim is to ensure that this continues.

The service has the ambition to enable Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for all older people with frailty that might benefit within Nottinghamshire. This ambition has seen an increase in consultant geriatrician numbers over the last five to ten years, providing opportunities to develop new and innovative models of service delivery.

Working in the HCOP specialty the post-holders will be responsible for:

- Share consultant responsibility on 1 of our 8 acute/subacute HCOP wards, improve our commitment to frail older people within the acute medical and frailty pathway
- Cover of our HCOP Frailty admissions unit, D57
- In-reach into acute admission areas

We're based in the heart of Nottingham and provide services to over 2.5 million residents of Nottingham and its surrounding communities. We also provide specialist services for a further 3-4 million people from across the region.

We're one of the largest employers in the region, employing around 15,000 people at QMC, Nottingham City Hospital and Ropewalk House.
- QMC is where our Emergency Department (A&E), Major Trauma Centre and the Nottingham Children’s Hospital are based. QMC is also home to the University of Nottingham
- s School of Nursing and Medical School
- Nottingham City Hospital is our planned care site, where our cancer centre, heart centre and stroke services are based
- Ropewalk House is where we provide a range of outpatient services, including hearing services

We have 90 wards and around 1,700 beds.

The appointees will be expected to fulfil the following duties with the agreed Job Plan.
Clinical - A full range of HCOP emergency and elective patients are admitted to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and the appointee will be responsible for the management of those patients admitted under his/her care.
