Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS**

The Adult Social care team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of - and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

Please view the extraordinary story of Giro’s Persuasive Powers **here**.

**The Role**:
Participating in the duty management rota and supervising other members of the team, you’ll carry out staff appraisals and ensure that all work is recorded accurately on paper and electronic files and on the service database. Taking an active role in working parties and other service development activities, and engaging in joint work with health services and other key agencies, you’ll oversee the quality and parity of case management decisions, and ensure consistent quality and targeting of the service to service users.

You’ll have a wide range of additional responsibilities, including authorising care packages and support plans, and chairing case conferences and safeguarding vulnerable adult meetings about specific service users. We’ll also expect you to act on any concern of abuse of a vulnerable adult, and fulfil the role of Safeguarding Adults Manager. When it comes to personnel matters, you’ll help Team Managers with the recruitment and induction of new team members, and assist with any issues that arise, including health and safety, disciplinary, sickness and performance matters.

Please refer to the **Job Description** for more information.

**About You**:
With a Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Community Nursing qualification, and membership of a professional register, you’ll have worked for at least three years’ in a case management role in a loyal authority setting with adults who have learning disabilities. You should also have experience of staff or student supervision in a local authority/health care management setting, knowledge of relevant legislation, and a strong commitment to the principles of personalisation, independence and choice.

A superb communicator with the ability to maintain accurate service user records, you’ll be fully conversant with the Data Protection Act and Access to Records legislation and policies, and a confident user of IT. You should have good knowledge of relevant local and national developments, and be capable of introducing these into practice through staff supervision and team and appraisal meetings. Skilled at organising your own workload and prioritising conflicting demands, you should also understand, interpret and effectively manage group dynamics, and assist in team development.

**What We Offer**:
Westminster is an amazing place. We are home to over 250,000 residents from all backgrounds, over 50,000 vibrant and vital businesses and three-quarters-of-a-million people work in Westminster. Westminster City Council’s strategy is to work towards a Fairer Westminster. A Fairer Westminster is one in which our communities are at the heart of our decision-making and help to determine the city’s future. By working directly with our communities and other partners, we can build a more inclusive city that celebrates our diverse communities, and where residents, workers and visitors from all backgrounds will feel welcome and safe.

As a forward-thinking Council we appreciate that people work in different ways, therefore our staff benefit from working a range of flexible working patterns as well as Agile working.
