**Job Purpose**
To provide high quality, efficient Logistics and Operational support for research and teaching in the James Watt School of Engineering. To carry out the duties assigned to the Logistics team. To co-ordinate the disposal of waste in accordance with university policies as required. To deliver upon vehicle and driver requests. To support co-ordination of School facilities and Estate.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. To support planning and organisation of day-to-day operational aspects of the Logistics Team. To prioritise and carry out/distribute workload and sequencing work patterns to meet the wide range of demands on the role.
2. Redistribution of furniture, goods and other equipment and maintaining good practices in line with Health and Safety and Fire Regulations. Including the setting and re-setting of rooms for functions and events.
3. To co-ordinate the use of School vehicles including liaising with Transport Services for regular maintenance, repairs and testing regimes. Keep up to date vehicle logs and submit to Transport Services as required.
4. To co-ordinate and provide driving duties for Logistics team. Liaise with Transport Services for provision of vehicles, liaise with hire companies as required.
5. To ensure good housekeeping and general orderliness of circulation and public areas within the School of Engineering Buildings.
6. To work with the facilities co-ordinator and technical services managers on a day to day basis to ensure operational engagement in local systems to further support the efficient running of School facilities. To make decisions on routine matters in the absence of line manager.
7. To provide an accurate, secure and reliable parcel distribution and delivery service.
8. To co-ordinate the disposal of equipment using University waste streams for WEEE, cardboard packaging, glassware, pallets, general waste et al including the hire of skips as required.
9. Receive and respond to enquiries seeking information, directions and advice; judging when to refer to others to provide the most effective service.
10. Engage in self development in line with the P&DR process and in the university of Glasgow behavioural framework.
11. Engage with UofG initiatives such as Equality Diversity and Inclusion and the Technician Commitment

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role OR Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 4 in English and Mathematics [National 4] or equivalent, and some experience of working in a similar role.
A2 Good knowledge of the Health and Safety legislation that is applicable to the role.

**Desirable**:

B1 Detailed knowledge of relevant systems, equipment, processes and procedures relative to the role and the quality standards and outputs required. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
B2 First Aid Certificate - full training will be provided if required

**Skills**

**Essential**:

C1 Good organisational skills
C2 Good IT and numerical skills
C3 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral.
C4 Ability to plan and prioritise work to meet competing demands
C5 Good level of accuracy and attention to detail
C6 Clean UK driving licence (categories B and D1), held for a minimum of 2 years
C7 Willingness to participate in training to acquire additional skills

**Desirable**:

D1 ADR licence as required by drivers of vehicles carrying dangerous goods on the public highway - full training will be provided if required.
D2 Good reporting and record keeping
D3 Familiarity with windows Excel
D4 Good woodworking skills
D5 Ability to operate a range of apparatus for the lifting and moving of equipment and goods

**Experience**

**Essential**:

E1 Relevant work experience gained in a University/HE environment.
E2 Experience in manual handling
E3 Experience with providing public facing activities or providing a service

**Desirable**:

F1 Some experience of working in a storage facility
F2 Experience of training staff in the safe use of equipment
F3 Experience of driving minibuses and transportation of students and staff
F4 Experience of Health and Safety regulations applicable to the role

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 3, £21,400 - £22,197 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended.
