**Job Title**: Youth & Community Worker

**Reports to**: Board of Directors
**Purpose**: To lead in delivery of personal and social development group work for children and young people within Youth Groups.

**Responsibilities**:

- Lead delivery of programmes of activity for groups of children, young people and their families at The Yard, within community settings and on the streets (outreach / detached.
- Lead events for children, young people and their communities in a variety of settings.
- Lead and participate in reflective debriefs of session delivery.
- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs.
- Ensure that safeguarding is placed at the forefront of the programmes, events and activities the are delivered in all settings.
- Ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of self and other persons, and to comply with the policies and procedures relating to health and safety within the department.
- Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the grade of the post.

**Experience and Knowledge**:

- Essential_
- Experience as a youth worker in groups or in a related post (paid or voluntary).
- An understanding of key aspects of the lives of disadvantaged communities and young people.
- Experience of planning a range of accessible sessions for young people and communities
- An understanding of social education and issues based work, and the ability to further develop skills in this area.
- An understanding of the diverse community in Northamptonshire.
- A commitment to non-discriminatory youth work practice, and to promoting access to the Youth Project for all in line with Community Court Yard’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
- Experience of planning and facilitating group sessions for communities and young people.
- An understanding of what meaningful participation means for disadvantaged communities.
- A good working knowledge of safeguarding reporting and procedures.

- Excellent and intuitive relationship building skills with young people.
- Excellent communication skills with young people and adults.
- Ability to demonstrate respect and anti oppressive practice with young people and communities.
- Sound organisational skills and a positive approach to problem solving.
- Ability to be an active and inspiring team player and motivate colleagues.
- Computer literacy including use of Social Media, Cloud technology, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software.
- Can work within Community Court Yard operational policies.
- Demonstrative commitment to equality of opportunity.
- Be able to work flexible hours, this role will include evening working and some weekends.
- Willingness to participate in training and development.
- Desirable Qualifications_
- A Diploma or level 3 Youth Work Practice qualification or equivalent and / or JNC Youth and Community Development qualification or equivalent.
