We have a fantastic opportunity due to our current significant growth plan, for an experienced Fleet Commercial Underwriter, to join our Leeds branch. The team is a dynamic group of insurance experts, with enviable expertise and strong market relationships, who deliver sustainable, high-quality solutions for our Mid-Market clients, working in partnership with our local brokers and supporting their growth plans.

The rapidly growing branch and underwriting team have a breadth of expertise, understanding and focus on providing tailored solutions for clients, that ensures the continuing success.

As Fleet Underwriter, you'll deliver the branch trading results through effective underwriting of commercial risks within agreed authority levels whilst delivering excellent customer service to brokers. Working in the Commercial Underwriting Team, you'll be responsible for underwriting business profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practices and governance framework, using the full range of appetite and tools available.

**What you'll be doing**:

- Develop credibility with brokers and customers, using effective questioning and influencing to understand all aspects of importance to both broker and customer, and keep them informed about ongoing activity.
- Establish excellent trading relationships with brokers, through visits and large case liaison, to develop pipeline maximise financial results and to generate pipeline new business opportunities.
- Build a reputation as a trading expert with a panel of intermediaries and build confidence in the branch ability through interaction with our Underwriting Technical Centre.
- Identify poorly performing accounts and investigate reasons for lack of retention. Agree and implement actions with senior underwriter, Trading Team Manager & Account Manager to increase retention.
- Contribute to the development of peers by coaching and acting as a reference point to assist in decision making within empowerment.
- Support SME Trading Centre with intermediaries to enable a consistent and seamless service to be delivered.

- Cert CII qualification with DIP CII desirable.
- Strong trading capability - commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build broker relationships within the Fleet environment.
- Pragmatic and confident decision maker with good numerical reasoning skills.
- Analytical skills with proven experience of account monitoring and action planning.
- Technical underwriting expertise in a composite insurance environment (non-package).
- Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance (including treating customers fairly).
