We are looking for a Finance and Business Support Lead to join the Security team within the Digital, Data Technology and Security (DDTS).

In Defra Group Security (DgS) you will be the lead in supporting the Senior Security Advisor and Security Risk Owner (SRO) with financial advice across the security department. This will include providing monthly reports relating to the financial performance of the Defra team to ensure that expenditure is in line with spending review targets.

This is an engaging role with a very particular skill set which requires a high level of analytical skill and a key eye for detail. You will be working closely with Finance Business Partners and other finance colleagues across DDTS to find a working solution to complex and multifaceted issues. This is an influential and pivotal role where you can expect to work across Defra Group Security, DDTS and Defra. You will need to be able to explain complex aspects of finance and provide expert advice and recommendations, anticipating, evaluating and highlighting key risks along the way. This role requires a security clearance.

**Person specification**

**Responsibilities**
- Managing the team budget and headcount and reporting into the monthly and quarterly financial performance to the SRO on the department's financial performance. This will require strategic workforce planning within DgS, and short and long-term financial business planning.
- Experience in establishing networks with business leaders and specialists across large complex organisations and associated suppliers, and using them to help develop financial operating models.
- Frequent communication required at all levels and up to Deputy Director level across Defra and senior levels with suppliers and other Government departments and Arm's Length Bodies.
- Expert finance knowledge and guidance to put forward and defend the preferred option. To consider evaluation of multiple conflicting factors and recommend a workable, pragmatic solution.
- Contributing to the Business Support Function by being the point of contact for HR queries and Training and development.
- Navigating DDTS governance and processes. Updating internal records and tracking

financial data to ensure transactions are accurate. For example, working with other key
stakeholders to ensure agreed internal Defra - wide recharges are actioned.
- Acting as a focal point for a range of key stakeholders within Defra including Finance, HR and Commercial.
- Carrying out additional ad-hoc business support duties to support the Defra security team. This may involve collating of staff responses, participating in the rollout of new capabilities and cover for peers within the team from time to time.

- Experience in engaging, advising and influencing at all levels of an organisation including senior managers in challenging and complex environments.

- Managing a complex and diverse workload, drawing on multiple teams to complete tasks.
- Performing effectively to deadlines, maintaining focus in challenging situations and adapting to find solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders.
- Experience in working in finance and with contracts acting as an intelligent customer.
