**Specific Responsibilities 1. Clinical Responsibilities**: To take an advanced autonomous imaging role in the activities of the ultrasound department. To carry out sole reporting of ultrasound examinations, dependent on qualifications, on an agreed basis. To ensure that all patients are treated with consideration and care that is appropriate to their condition, using clinical judgement as to the optimum technique, selection of equipment and other parameters.
To have advanced counselling skills in order to deal with difficult situation decision making when undertaking obstetric scanning. Liaise with other staff to ensure the smooth running of the Ultrasound and Radiology Service. To comply with the Health and Safety. To participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings where appropriate.
To take part in the departments Quality Assurance programme including regular testing of ultrasound equipment. To be aware of the principles of clinical governance and ensure that working practices conform to these principles. Maintain professional standards at all times. Take part in weekend sessions on a 1 in 6 rota 2.Managerial responsibilities: To deputise for the Superintendent sonographer as required, ensuring that available resources are used effectively.
Represent the sonographers at agreed internal and external meetings. Participate in the development and implementation of protocols and procedures. Take an active part in clinical audit. Participate in all aspects of patient record keeping undertaken within the department, including entering data on the Directorate PACS and RIS systems.
Demonstrate a planned approach to managing time. Consider other people and available resources. Ensure that all Health and Safety regulations, Data Protection Act, Trust and Directorate policies are implemented. Be aware of and take an active role in ensuring the Directorate works toward meeting targets and key objectives of the Trust.
Report all equipment faults or unsafe areas to the Lead Superintendent Sonographer ensuring appropriate action has been taken to ensure safety. Vet ultrasound requests according to departmental protocols, and National Screening pathways and Nice guidelines. Take part in supervision of more junior staff and students, acting as mentor, and play a part in appraisal. 3.Professional responsibilities: To observe Trust, Directorate, College of Radiographers and Health Professions Council or equivalent codes of conduct and standards of proficiency.
To maintain State registration as required by the HCPC if applicable. To participate in mandatory training requirements. 4. Education and development responsibilities: To keep up to date in all new techniques and trends and be able to demonstrate Continuing Professional Development.
To incorporate evaluation into working practices in order to achieve objectives and ensure effectiveness. To reflect and learn from the practice of self and others. To participate in the practical training of student radiographers and other learners to include clinicians and junior doctors. To develop and adapt learning programmes for training with regard to the departmental needs and individual learning needs.
