**Job Title**: Fire Assistant

**Salary**: £39,469 to £47,089 plus a location allowance of £1,721. You will receive £39,469 the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £47,089 will be via incremental progression.

**Location**:Hendon or Sidcup

This role sits within the Property Services Compliance Team within the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS). The Compliance Team are an integral part of our Property Services Department (PSD) and are key in ensuring the risks related to all areas of compliance are effectively managed and meet all regulatory, good practice and legal obligations, ensuring the safety of our properties, colleagues, contractors, visitors, and members of the public.

You will be required to have a firm understanding of the fire safety measures imposed to support MPS with their responsibilities, while working closely with the Fire Team to oversee the day-to-day tasks.

You will be based within London and may be expected to travel occasionally to other MPS sites in the UK.

**Role Responsibilities**
- Support the MPS on all fire safety matters and work with organisational managers to ensure fire safety is managed in line with the Fire Safety Management Plan
- Maintain and review on site fire logbooks on each site on the Met Estate
- Capture and store documents related to Evacuation procedures produced by Premises Fire Leads for the MPS estate and ensure where required, line managers produce Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEP’s) for those staff who require them
- Administer the fire risk assessment programme actions delivered by competent contractors and ensure actions arising from all completed fire risk assessments are closed out in a timely manner through liaison with action owners
- Track and manage internal fire related actions through to completion
- Attend monthly meetings with the Fire Risk Assessment contractor to monitor progress and targets, quality of work and help manage any issues identified
- Stay abreast of all new developments in fire safety legislation and guidance and ensure internal processes are amended as necessary
- Work closely with supporting departments within PSD, our partners and the MPS including the wider Compliance Team, Building Managers, Premises Fire Leads, Facilities Managers, Construction Team and Safety Health and Risk Management Team
- Assist the Fire Team with the delivery of fire safety training
- Attend relevant meetings to provide fire safety updates and as a representative of the Property Services Compliance Team
- Willingness to influence positive operational behaviour changes to support improved fire safety management

**Essential for the Role e.g., qualifications, licenses, languages, training**

**Experience and Qualifications**
- You will have a solid understanding of fire safety legislation, demonstrable through the relevant qualification and professional membership i.e., IFE, IFSM
- Hold a nationally recognised qualification in fire safety i.e., NEBOSH GC1, FC1 and FC2
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development to maintain professional competence
- Hold relative experience of a fire safety role in a high-risk organisation with a complex structure advising on a broad range of fire safety risks and mitigations
- The ability to communicate using current technology
