Assistant Agricultural Consultant

Full Time - Monday to Friday (40 hours per week.)

Fixed Term

Initially for 1 year with the aim of making the role permanent.

**Job Purpose**

The post holder will receive training and support to work towards becoming an agricultural consultancy whilst working with and supporting the team of Agricultural consultants to deliver advice to a range of established clients across Scotland and the north of England.

**Owen Farm Services**

Owen Farm Services currently deliver advice to a range of established clients from the office near Lockerbie. This includes Dairy, Beef, Sheep and other rural businesses. Owen Farm Services helps farmers to comply with legislation, develop their business by undertaking farm reviews, preparing budgets along with general farm business advice.

**Main Duties/Responsibilities**

The role will involve exposure to all the areas of agricultural consultancy that we currently deliver including but not limited to Farm Business Advice, Technical Consultancy, Nutrient Management and Soil Sampling.

The role will include learning all areas of the business to get a full understanding of how the business operates with opportunities for specialisation as you progress.

The responsibilities of the role will include receiving training to carry out the following
- Visiting farms to understand our clients’ businesses and offer advice and services to meet their needs
- Undertaking Carbon Audits and offering advice on how to improve carbon footprint
- Working with farms to understand their technical profile and offer advice to improve productivity
- Offering compliance advice to farms on a range of schemes
- Preparing nutrient management plans including creation of maps using GIS systems
- Preparing budgets, business plans and monitoring business performance
- Preparation, carrying out and understanding results of soil sampling
- Report writing for business and technical advice
- Data entry such as account information or farm livestock data
- General office support and administration
- Other duties commensurate with this role

**Experience and Skills**
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent IT skills, particularly with MS Office.
- Commercial awareness.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- A good manner to help understand and help clients and collegues
- An appreciation of the discretion and confidentiality that this role will require.
- Carry out practical elements of the job such as soil sampling.
- Use initiative in the conduct of their work,
- A full driving licence is essential since travel throughout the UK will be required.

**Essential Qualifications**
- Clean driving license.

**Desirable Qualifications**
- Experience working on/with farms.

**Ongoing Training**

**Salary**: £24,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
