We are looking for a **qualified dispenser** to join our established team for at The Park Surgery, Driffield, East Yorkshire.
The successful applicant will be at the front line within our dispensary. Our dispensary staff are responsible for processing all of the prescriptions that are requested by our patients. You will need to be an accurate, methodical person and be able to work under pressure as the practice is extremely busy. You need to be qualified in dispensing to NVQ2 level
Hours of work vary between 8:00am and 8:00pm on a Monday, and 8:00am to 6:30pm Tuesday to Friday.
In addition we require the successful applicant to be flexible and provide absence and holiday cover.
We dispense medication to approx. half of our registered patients, over 6,000 of which are served by The Park Surgery site. Following a consultation with a GP, and providing the patient meets the criteria to be able to collect their medication from the practice, the necessary information will pass via the computer to the dispensary. The dispensary staff are also responsible for processing all the repeat prescriptions requests that come into the practice. This involves receiving the initial request, generating a prescription on the computer system and ensuring that the relevant doctor signs the prescription (electronically or manually). All these tasks need to be carried out within a 72 hour timescale.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Dispensary Manager/Pharmacist
LOCATION: The Park Surgery
JOB PURPOSE: To ensure the practice offers an effective, efficient and safe
prescribing and dispensing service. To provide a point of
contact for patients and act as a focal point of communication
between patients, doctors, and other medical staff.
MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. DISPENSING
a. To receive requests from patients for acute and repeat prescriptions, and ensure that these are passed to the doctor for processing.
b. To dispense prescriptions accurately and safely to eligible patients.
c. To endorse prescriptions and ensure they are passed on to the PPA in good time.
d. To ensure that appropriate stock levels are kept of all drugs. To ensure that appropriate orders are placed with suppliers, and to check delivery notes and invoices for payment.
e. To keep the stock well laid out and ensure it is used in rotation so that date-expired drugs are not dispensed.
f. To keep the Controlled Drugs Register up-to-date.
g. To ensure that all prescriptions are recorded in patient records according to Practice policy. To maintain a comprehensive and accurate repeat prescriptions index on the computer.
h. To ensure that all stocks of drugs (including controlled drugs) are stored and handled safely and in accordance with all appropriate legislation and guidelines.
i. To assist with stocktaking.
j. To ensure cleanliness of the dispensary and equipment at all times.
k. To comply with Practice policies to ensure the security of the dispensary and contents.
l. To comply with all requirements of the Care Quality Commission and other regulatory authorities as required.
2. ADMINISTRATION
a. To assist with the Practice's clerical work as required. This may involve data entry onto computer, issuing mail-merge letters, recording and extracting data for audit and administrative purposes.
b. To become familiar with the Practice's computer systems and to ensure that they are being used effectively.
c. To ensure that there is effective liaison between The Park Surgery and the Branch Surgery.
3. RECEPTION
a. Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts for same.
b. Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors.
4. OPERATION OF TELEPHONE SYSTEM
a. Receive and make calls as required. Divert calls and take messages as necessary.
b. Ensure that the system is operational at the start of the day.
c. Ensure telephone answering is carried out in accordance with Practice policies re. speed of answering, script etc.
5. START AND END OF DAY PROCEDURES
a. When appropriate, open up premises at start of day and make all necessary preparations to receive patients.
b. When appropriate, secure premises at end of day. Ensure premises totally secured, car park locked, internal lights off, and alarms set.
6. OTHER DUTIES
a. Keep staff kitchen area clean and tidy.
b. Ensure clinical waste is collected, stored, and disposed of according to regulations.
c. Work additional hours to cover for colleagues sickness and annual leave absence.
d. Participation in the extended hours rota.
e. Ensure awareness of responsibilities in relation to health & safety and infection control.
f. Any other duty as shall reasonably be required, including transportation of supplies to and from Nafferton. Occasionally there may also be the need to work from Nafferton.
