The Office for Veterans’ Affairs (OVA), based in the Cabinet Office, was created in 2019 to lead the cross-government delivery of the Strategy for our Veterans, to develop future iterations of that strategy, and to provide leadership, advocacy and improved coordination of veterans’ issues across government.

There are around 2 million veterans in the UK and 15,000 people leaving the Armed Forces every year.

The government wants to ensure that every single veteran has the opportunity to move successfully into civilian life and can access the help they need to do so.

The community of veterans and their families is diverse and varied in the support people need, with the work of the OVA spanning issues including housing, health and wellbeing, employment, diversity and inclusion, historical legacy issues, finance, criminal justice and societal recognition of the value of service in the Armed Forces

As a **Digital Communications Officer,** your main responsibilities would be:

- Create impactful digital assets including graphics and basic animations
- Monitor and manage our external social media channels, and wider social commentary, for messages and comments about OVA
- Ensure work is delivered on time and that budget is used well to maximise impact
- Use social media insight tools to track performance and regularly report on impact, making recommendations to improve future approach
- Use research, insight, and analytics, to ensure we fully understand our social media audiences
- Use knowledge of cutting-edge digital communications tactics to provide recommendations to colleagues on planned activity, challenging where appropriate to ensure the right product or approach is delivered

**Essential Criteria**:

- You are a confident user of all major social media platforms, and have a strong interest in digital trends and innovations
- You have produced creative digital content and low/no-cost campaigns that are audience-focused, channel-specific and grounded in insight
- You have extensive experience capturing film and photography at varied locations
- You know how to track and evaluate the impact of digital communications, reporting regularly on progress
- You can use evaluation and insights to adapt your style and engage a range of audiences
- You have excellent communication skills when presenting your content concepts and giving creative direction
- You are organised with the capability to manage emerging and conflicting demands in a changing environment
- You are comfortable working frequently with ministers or senior stakeholders, in presenting your recommendations persuasively and incorporating feedback
- You work well under pressure and thrive as part of a team, demonstrating credibility and confidence in dealing with people at all levels
- You understand the part social media plays in the broader communications, including building the OVA brand, improving access to services and telling positive stories of veterans in the community

**Desirable Criteria**:

- You have experience writing compelling copy for a variety of social media channels and audiences, including scripts
- You have experience of creating, storyboarding, and commissioning digital content.
- You are a creative problem-solver who can take complex communications challenges and produce innovative solutions
- You have experience in managing corporate digital channels
- You have worked with vulnerable groups, or are able to adapt ways of working when needed
