Property Ecologist

We’re looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Property Ecologist to support the delivery of National Trust's Land, Outdoors and Nature Strategy across the 2128ha's of the North & West Dorset portfolio.
With previous experience of ecological monitoring, habitat management and engagement, you’ll support our Ranger team and volunteers in delivering an exciting and ambitious programme of surveying, habitat management and restoration.
The North and West Dorset portfolio hosts some of the most important places for nature within the National Trust's care. From the Fontmell and Melbury Downs in north Dorset, forming the largest contiguous area of chalk grassland that the Trust owns, to the wildflower rich meadows of the Golden Cap Estate in the west, which form the largest block of un-improved neutral grassland in southern England.
We are looking for someone as passionate about nature as our team and volunteers, to support our work on the portfolio in understanding and delivering more for nature and people.

What you'll be doing:You’ll be leading on strategic work to improve our monitoring plans and understanding of nature on the portfolio, building effective and collaborative working relationships with partners and providing support to our Ecology Volunteer group in the role of Volunteer Manager.
As part of this work, you'll collaborate closely with our Ranger team, with internal colleagues, farm and residential tenants, regional and national land and nature partners.
You’ll also input into our engagement plans to help people to understand, connect with and enjoy our landscapes, wildlife and cultural heritage, making everyone welcome.
- Who we're looking forA good understanding of ecology and land management with either a degree in ecology, or other natural sciences or a number of years’ experience working in the countryside in an area related to ecology or nature conservation.
- Experience in a range of survey and monitoring techniques.
- Experience translating survey and monitoring information into land management guidance
- Good identification skills for British plant and animal communities.
- Enthusiasm for working as part of a property team, with good experience of team working/ or working with volunteers.
