Reporting to: Home Manager

Job purpose: To oversee / maintain the care of all Service Users within the Care Centre and, in the absence of the Home Manager, take responsibility for the day to day running of the Care Centre. To delegate tasks and monitor all junior Staff activity

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

Required:

- Genuine interest in working with the relevant Service Users group
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Team player
- Satisfactory Policy Check and check against the ISA list
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Previous management/supervisory experience
- NVQ Level 3 in Care

Desired:

- Previous experience of working with the relevant Service User group

Main responsibilities

Care
- Ensure that all Staff Members contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the Care Centre, and to the creation o an atmosphere conducive to the best interests of Service Users
- Take responsibility for Service User care, as designated by the Home Manager in his/her absence
- Assess social and health care needs of new Service Users and maintain ongoing assessment and review of all other Service Users
- Administer prescribed medicines and maintain the appropriate records in line with the Company’s policies and procedures
- Maintain accurate records and ensure that each Service User within the Care Centre has an individualised Care Plan. Service User Care Plans to be reviewed on a bi-annual basis, or more frequently as and when required in line with the Company’s policy and procedures
- Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting and assisting Service Users when required with all aspects of daily living.
- Assist Clients in all aspects of their care needs, e.g. physical, emotional and spiritual. Provide supervision and attention when needed, ensuring Service Users retain their comfort and dignity
- Closely monitor Service Users who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems
- Assist in the promotion of continence
- Assist in the delivery of care for Service Users who are dying or who have a progressive illness. Assist with last offices
- Observe care planning needs for Service Users and completed daily records as instructed and in line with the Company’s policies and procedures
- Assist in framework of social activities by interacting with Service Users and helping them continue with hobbies and activities in the Care Centre
- Answer Nurse Call system, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly
- Report on well-being of Service Users
- Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments. assistance as and when required
- Make and change beds, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, in line with the Care Centres disposal of waste policy.
- Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved in line with the Company’s policies and procedures
- Assist Service Users who need help during meal times, be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc. Assist with servicing of food/drinks as requested/required. Wash up as requested/required.
- Escort Service Users travelling to and from the Care Centre e.g. on social outings, hospital visits etc
- Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Service Users personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship that exists with Service Users

Communication
- Report any changes in Service Users physical or emotional condition to the Home Manager
- Provide comfort and company on a one to one basis for Service Users who are confined to their room for any reason
- Arrange/Participate in Staff and Service User meetings as required

Budgetary/Financial Control
- Be aware of the need to manage and maintain budgets agreed by the Home Manager and Head Office
- Ensure that all commodities used in and around the Care Centre are sensibly conserved by all grades of Staff e.g. monitor usage of incontinence aids, wipes, dressings, electricity, gloves etc

Human Resources (HR)
- Interview for new Staff Members with Home Manager as and when required, in line with the Company’s recruitment policy
- Participate in Staff Induction & Training programmes as and when required
- Undertake formal supervision of junior staff as per Company policy and procedure

Marketing
- Actively market the Care Centre and promote a positive personal/professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the Care Centre at all tunes
- Ensure the Care Centre is attractively presented and odour fee at all times in line with the Company’s attention to detail philosophy
- Ensure a viewing room is suitable presented and available at all times unless Care Centre is fully occupied
- Provide support to the Home Manager with viewings for potential Service Users
