**REPORT TO _(Job title)_ : Machine Design Manager**

**JOB PURPOSE**:
To support the Machine Design Manager as a technical lead, adding strength to the department's engineering capability and act as a mentor for other designers.

To create robust & functional design solutions to industrial problems. Complete designs on production machinery and equipment used in the cold roll forming manufacturing process. Working to improve efficiency and quality of machines used in the manufacturingprocess.

**JOB DETAILS** The job holder should:

- Design mechanical plant and equipment, using 3D Inventor software
- Produce designs of hydraulic / pneumatic circuits
- Lead technical discussions and check work done by other designers
- Work collaboratively with management on strategic projects and provide technical council to the other Mechanical Designers
- Produce mechanical specifications
- Take designs from concept to final detailed drawings
- Execute all aspects of machinery projects, including; assessments, quotations, purchasing and managing delivery within budget and timescale
- Act as customer liaison for mechanical design enquiries
- Attend projects meetings
- Design machinery in accordance with the CE / UKCA Machinery Directive and OSHA standards
- Demonstrate continual innovation of design
- Carry out any other duties within the capability of the job holder which may arise or be determined by senior management

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE** **Education and Qualification(s)**
- Varied industrial design experience with relevant training NVQ / HND / BTEC / Degree

**Experience**:

- Engineer with strong exposure to a range of engineering projects
- Demonstrates practical Engineering experience with extensive, in-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes

**Language(s) & level**:

- English (fluent)

- High level of competence with:

- 3D CAD packages - ideally Autodesk Inventor o Pneumatics and hydraulics
- Geometric tolerances and drawing standards o Drivetrain - Gears, belts, chains, ball screw, linear ways o Bearings & Materials knowledge
- Robust knowledge of milling, turning, drilling, grinding and fabrication manufacturing processes.
- Project management and procurement skills to ensure equipment is built as intended
