**Role**: Surface Mount Device Technician
**Location**: Loughborough, Leicestershire
**Salary**: £25,000 - £35,000
**Hours**: Monday - Thursday 08:30 - 17:00
- Friday 08:30 - 14:00
**Summary**
The role of a Surface Mount Device Technician requires a great deal of precision and attention to detail. The successful technician will be responsible for programming and operating surface mount equipment, paste machine and reflow ovens with extensive experiencein intricate work involving soldering of 0402 components, fine pitch devices (0.5mm) and experience chip swapping.
You will work closely with engineers to ensure that the products they’re building meet quality standards.
**Duties and Responsibilities include the following.**Other duties may be assigned.
- Use of computer software for programming and operation of SMT machine
- Manage electronic component identification, verification of parts, feeder pick-up locations and placements by Bills of Materials and Works Orders requirements
- Daily upkeep of surface mount component stock, checking new stock in, labelling, boxing and storing
- Reporting any non-conforming parts to the materials and engineering departments, rectification of any faults found
- Liaising with relevant personnel to ensure planning production to meet targets and schedules
- Maintaining batch traceability documentation for all surface mount assemblies Component rework carried out using dedicated hand-operated SMT soldering equipment Inspection, general equipment maintenance, placement machine setup, job kitting and buildingprototypes
- Maintain cleanliness of work areas
- Assistance with periodic and annual stock checks

**Education and/or Experience**:

- Familiar with techniques used within a rework role, such as corrective soldering, removal and replacement of components
- Understanding of IPC610 level 3
- Familiar with using magnifiers
- Ability to synthesize, evaluate and interpret written and verbal information with a high level of English skills and communication
- Attention to detail with awareness of quality, accuracy and ethical considerations
- Excellent visual acuity
- Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of electronics manufacturing and troubleshooting
- Adherence to ISO 9000:2008 standards

**Language Skills**:

- Ability to effectively communicate in the English language verbally and in writing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.

**Computer Skills**:

- Familiar with operating systems, such as Windows, etc.
