We are currently recruiting for a Nuclear Regulator to join our team.
At the Environment Agency, we are responsible for regulating the disposal of radioactive waste across the whole of the nuclear industry in England. **Incident Response**:Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You’ll be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
**What will you do?**
As a site regulator, you’ll be the focal point for all environment Agency interacts on site. You’ll be part of one of our specialist teams and have the opportunity to broaden your skills across a number of sectors of the nuclear industry such as nuclear new build and geological disposal.
You’ll provide specialist advice, guidance and support to our senior managers/external partners, in line with relevant legislation and best practice in order to effectively underpin risk-based decision making and support environmental outcomes.
You’ll develop and implement systems and tools for monitoring and reporting on service delivery, to assess and interpret operational performance/compliance and advise senior managers on implications and appropriate action.
You’ll develop, maintain and share technical expertise with staff to improve knowledge and competence throughout the organisation as required. Lead or support local / national project teams to achieve well planned and managed integrated solutions that progress effective change and improvement in the Environment Agency.
**What will I need?**
**Essential**:
A Scientific Degree or equivalent vocational experience, you’ll need proven experience and a sound knowledge of relevant UK legislation relevant to radioactive substances regulation and other relevant legislation, to enable you to regulate against and an appreciation of the challenges the industry faces. Experience of radiological monitoring or radiological assessment or knowledge of radiochemistry (which could be from working in the nuclear industry or scientific community)
We expect our Nuclear Regulators to join us with significant experience of working in the nuclear industry or regulating You’ll be able to lead and understand our work from day one as well as.
Proof that you have lived in the UK for the last 3 years in line with Environment Agency enhanced security checks is essential.
**You’ll also need**:
- Experience of leading compliance audit and inspection programmes at nuclear sites; lead or support project teams undertaking work on nuclear regulation to ensure consistency across the business.
- The ability to assess technical information relating to radioactive waste, associated environment protection equipment and discharges from nuclear sites.
- The ability to advise a range of customers in the nuclear industry on the legislation we enforce and the standards we expect to see.
- Technical competency over a wide range of data management issues including use of computerised management record/data systems.
- The ability to determine, review and vary environmental permits, for existing or new build sites.
