We promote problem-solving interdisciplinary research on particular themes where we have outstanding scholarship and critical mass, e.g. gender, families, work, inequalities, migration, bio-social interactions.
**About the role**:
This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow to support a longitudinal ethnographic research project funded by NIHR and sitting within the SRI’s Thomas Coram Research Unit.
The project is examining how and in what ways community food assets (CFAs) may best prevent the need for emergency food aid within families. CFAs are organisations which provide help and support to people who are food insecure through the provision of emergency food aid alongside other material support.
The post holder will carry out fieldwork in two ways. First, they will interact with food services and users and acquire deep understanding of what is available, how they are used and what the links are between them, to produce a diagram of the complex food system in Tower Hamlets. Second, they will act as a ‘researcher in residence’ at two community food assets in Tower Hamlets.
The role will also involve assisting with all aspects of the study include systems mapping and preparing participant facing documentation and obtaining ethical, R&D and other relevant approvals for the study.
The post is available from 1st September 2023 until 31st August 2025 in the first instance.
**About you**:
You will have a PHD in Social Sciences or Public Health or equivalent experience,
along with evidence of scholarship in the field of community studies, family and food sociology, public health, child health, family studies, which contributes to SRI research, with a record of peer-reviewed publications.
