Our special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) team is looking for someone to join them as a SEND Casework Officer.

The case work role is to work with children and young people and monitor the Section F of the EHCP and its implementation. You will work across schools, colleges, as well as alongside health and social care teams. Your role is to champion the child or young person and work in co-produced and restorative manner.

Experience of working with children and young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families, and a good working knowledge of current and emerging SEND-related legislation and the SEND Code of Practice will be essential, as well as a good knowledge of Preparing for Adulthood. A key task will be to ensure that for every child and young person, the EHC needs assessment and planning process runs efficiently and statutory deadlines are met, but alongside this you will manage a group of allocated children and young people who are at risk of school or college placement breakdown or not having their needs met.

The post-holder will need to be able to work under pressure, to meet deadlines and to identify priorities when faced with competing demands. Excellent verbal and written communication skills will be essential, as will the ability to build and maintain strong and positive working relationships with families, schools and a range of other professionals.

**Interviews are expected to be conducted during the week commencing 8th April 2024.**

**This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.**

**Skills**:
Essential:

**As this post meets the requirements of the Immigration Act 2016 (part 7), the ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.**

**Knowledge**:
Essential:

- A thorough understanding of current legislation and DfE guidance and developments in special educational needs.
- A broad understanding of issues surrounding general developments in educational assessment and intervention.
- Knowledge of working with schools as systems.
- Knowledge of legislation and procedures relating to assessment and provision for children with special educational needs.
- An understanding of the implications of the emerging changes to legislation relating to special educational needs.

**Experience & Qualifications**:
Essential:

- Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent).
- Experience of work in relation to young people and children with special educational needs.
- Experience of working under pressure and making robust evidenced informed decisions.
- Evidence of having delivered improved outcomes and impact for children and young people.
