Ensure safe and effective clinical practice To ensure the efficient and effective provision of a high-quality MRI service and undertake quality control to ensure that the highest possible standards are achieved and maintained by the team. To be responsible for the compilation of work rotas for the MRI area, ensuring that all rotas are staffed, when required. To supervise as necessary the work of all staff working in the MRI departments. To assist in the development of an efficient team to maximise patient care in terms of quality, quantity, and timeliness.

To ensure equipment is used safely, in line with operating instructions and protocols. To ensure correct usage and care of equipment, to report faults and breakdowns appropriately. To liaise with equipment manufacturers, Ergea and service agents as required to agree dates for both preventative maintenance and issue resolution and maintain records of services in line with guidelines. To produce and maintain a comprehensive list of protocols and procedures for the MRI departments, updating as necessary and liaising with Consultant Radiologists and the Medical Physics Department.

To be responsible for the stock control, ordering and revenue consequences of consumable items used by the scanning department. To produce meaningful statistical information to assist with capacity and demand planning and meet other service monitoring and improvement objectives. To actively participate in the Departments Clinical Governance Programme and to attend the Departments Risk Management Group when required. To liaise with service users and the MRI Superintendent to provide the best standard of service possible within the resources available.

To assist in the design and implementation of systems of work to improve efficiency and effectiveness. To be responsible for implementing a Quality Assurance Programme in the areas managed, liaising with Consultant Radiologists and Physicists as applicable. To ensure that Risk Assessments are carried out for all areas of responsibility and reviewed annually or earlier should the need arise. To ensure that the Risk Management Policy, Health and Safety Policies and the Ionising Radiation Regulations are adhered to, including the local rules.

To report accidents / untoward incidents / hazards to the appropriate persons as soon as possible, ensuring correct completion of the Incident Report Forms and accident book, entering data onto the DATIX system and forwarding the completed forms to the Governance Department. To be responsible for the training of Radiographers and Students in MRI and participate in the training of Imaging Assistants. Clinical Governance To be familiar with the principles of clinical governance and to strive to maintain and improve the quality of patient care, always showing courtesy and consideration. To be responsible for the setting and monitoring quality standards in the area.

To investigate complaints and report the findings to the MRI Superintendent, and to learn lessons from these complaints; putting these into lessons into practice to improve services. To be responsible for monitoring and reviewing waiting times and waiting list information, liaising with the MRI Superintendent as necessary. To ensure that all staff are competent to perform the duties assigned to them, issuing competency certificates where necessary. To undertake audits of the MRI service as required.

Personnel Management Assist with recruitment, selection and induction of MRI staff, liaising with the MRI Superintendent. Be responsible for reviewing absences, conducting return to work interviews, and ensure adherence to the Trust HR Policy for managing sickness. Ensure the accurate recording and retention of staff records in terms of attendance and annual, study and sick leave in line with trust policies. Act as a role model for MRI and radiology department colleagues from the perspective of dress code, time keeping, attitude, core values, teamwork, autonomy, patient centered care.

Assist in the reviewing and appraising of MRI staff on an annual basis or more frequently should the need arise. Responsible for the delivery of a training programme for MRI staff. This is a summary of the main duties - please see the attached JD/PS for full information.
