We would like to recruit a highly skilled, motivated, flexible and enthusiastic Band 7/8a AOS ANP / Trainee fixed term for 8 months to cover maternity leave. The postholder will be responsible for undertaking comprehensive health assessments, physical examinations and ordering diagnostic tests for cancer patients attending the Clinical Assessment Unit on both sites, who present unwell due to their treatment and/or disease. Using advanced clinical decision making and assessment skills, prompt treatment plans or referrals will be initiated to effectively manage acute and chronic cancer-related complications and/or toxicities from systemic anti-cancer
treatments and/or radiotherapy.

The postholder will be involved in establishing, delivering and leading a comprehensive acute oncology service within the Trust in line with the Acute Oncology Measures outlined in the Manual for Cancer Services. Fundamentally working as an autonomous and advanced practitioner assessing, diagnosing and treating patients in an appropriate and timely
fashion.

The role is a key part of the Acute Oncology Team. The post holder will be responsible for undertaking comprehensive health assessments, physical examinations and ordering diagnostic tests for cancer patients attending the trust, who present unwell due to their treatment and/or disease. The post holder will be involved in the further development of the acute oncology service within the Trust in line with the Acute Oncology Measures outlined in the Manual for Cancer Services. Fundamentally working as an autonomous and advanced practitioner assessing, diagnosing and treating patients in an appropriate and timely fashion.

The post holder will be expected to work across both Sutton and Chelsea sites and be flexible to ensure the service is covered appropriately, particularly during periods of annual leave and study leave.

Provide clinical leadership and maintain credibility through practice and professional update.

Practice evidence based nursing care to ensure high quality care

Act as an expert nurse and resource for patients, families and staff.

Admit and discharge or transfer patients as their needs require.

Undertake advanced clinical assessments of acutely unwell oncology patients to enable prompt assessment, diagnosis and treatment according to agreed policies, protocols and guidelines.

Order and interpret blood tests and initiate appropriate action as required.

Order diagnostic tests and imaging as appropriate.
