**The role**

The Service Delivery Underwriting teams are located regionally throughout the UK mainly in our regional underwriting hubs including Colchester and York. Part of Hiscox UK’s central operations function and are responsible for the volume underwriting of our referrals across new and existing business.

The team directly influence the delivery of portfolio underwriting targets and play a pivotal role in the portfolio change cycle. The Trainee Underwriters work with the regional teams to deliver superb service in line with the agreed sales strategy.

The role will provide a breadth of development opportunities and exposure to our products, state of the art new underwriting platform and underwriting strategy.

We know the most successful way to train people is in an academy environment and for the first time we are branching out to underwriting. We believe we will derive the same benefits of speed to competency, deliver consistent onboarding and training and a clear path to achieving an underwriting licence.

The Underwriting Academy will consist of technical training syllabus and a academy. The technical training will focus on Foundation of Underwriting, Private Client and Home Insurance products, appetite and how to underwrite them, beginning your CII (professional qualification) studies and understanding our customers. The academy is designed to put the technical knowledge into practice with a clear route to achieving a level 1 Underwriting Licence by the end of the academy.

**What You’ll be doing**:

- Underwriting new/existing business across out Private Client products in line with our high standards
- This will be across both our direct and broker distribution channels and household, motor and travel insurance policies.
- Working towards set targets each month including profitability, GWP, conversion, retention, cross-sell, referral rate reduction, quotes per day, turnaround times, workflow management, phone service and prospecting.
- Developing your sales skills and appreciation of sales and underwriting strategy in collaboration with the wider teams and regions
- Effectively negotiating with both internal and external parties and identified points of contact within brokers
- Challenging non-standard underwriting decisions leveraging the expertise of product specialists and senior members of the team
- Showing courage and innovation by spotting process improvements and how we can do things differently to improve the customer experience and drive profitable growth

- An analytical mind, proactive in thought process and the ability to back up the decisions you make
- A natural flair for building relationships enabling you to develop close rapport with brokers, clients and colleagues
- Ability to be an ambassador of Hiscox and demonstrate ‘going the extra mile’ dedication and commitment in a fast growing and demanding area of the business
- Self-motivated with a strong determination to learn, achieve results and succeed
- ACII qualification or progression towards qualification
- Ability to show they are performing against their current KPIs and role accountabilities
