Woodlea Cottage (Short Breaks Service), is a Perth and Kinross Local Authority service that provides day and overnight short breaks to children and young people who have complex disabilities.

A rare opportunity has arisen for a permanent, part-time Social Care Officer (night-shift worker).

This job is graded at Job Families: Care and Learning Level 6, and has a good rate of pay enhanced by an unsocial hours allowance. You will also have the option to join the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme.

The role will include undertaking a range of responsibilities to ensure individual support and care plans are delivered in a way that meets the needs of service users.

Your main duties will be shared with another night-worker, with whom you will provide high quality care and support to children. The client group is aged between 5 and 18 years who have complex, non-routine support needs due to having multiple and enduring disabilities.

Your role is a varied one, which includes attending to children’s planned and unplanned night-time care needs. Tasks will include attending to intimate personal care needs, supporting children who wake, and occasionally administering prescribed medicines including rescue medication. In addition, there are routine tasks that need completed during the night which include stock-taking and recording of medicines on site, attending to laundry tasks, disinfection of toys and spaces, and basic administration tasks on computer.

A genuine interest in improving outcomes for children with complex disabilities is essential.

Your work must meet the Health and Social Care Standards and the Scottish Social Services Council, Codes of Practice for Employees. Your employer will meet the Codes of Practice for Employers.

As a professional child carer, you will reflect on the quality of your work with a supervisor during regular supervision and annual review meetings.

You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Residential Child Care Worker and must meet any qualification requirement within timescales set by the Scottish Social Services Council.

This is a permanent, part-time post. You will be salaried at 18.5 hours per week, which is across two night shifts of 9.25 hours from 22:00 to 07:15.

Shifts are planned well in advance. There will be opportunities to work additional nightshifts to cover leave.

**Requirements**:
You should ideally hold a child care qualification in one of the following:

- SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) SCQF Level 7 and/or an HNC Social Services, or other qualifications accepted by SSSC for registration as a Residential Childcare Worker.
