**Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship - Ash Field Academy**

The Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship at Ash Field Academy involves a broad spectrum of responsibilities aimed at fostering the physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of pupils with diverse abilities and disabilities. Apprentices work closely with teachers and therapists to provide assistance in various educational activities, including communication support, curriculum-based tasks, behavior development, and the utilization of specialized equipment such as ICT. They actively engage in facilitating access to the curriculum and may assist in hydrotherapy and swimming sessions. Apprentices participate in meetings, training sessions, and accompany pupils on outings, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout. Additionally, they contribute to the preparation and maintenance of teaching materials and equipment, support pupils with personal and social needs, including toileting, feeding, and administering medication, and assist in physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy programs. The role also involves promoting a positive learning environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines, and contributing to the overall development of the school community. Through this apprenticeship, individuals gain practical experience in supporting diverse learners and contributing to their holistic development within an educational setting.

**Key Details**:
**Salary**: £6.40 per hour, paid monthly

Working week: Monday to Friday, 35 hours a week, 8:30am-4pm with a 30min break.

Holiday: 28 days holiday (Bank Holidays not included)
Notice Period: 1 Month

Apprenticeship Details - 16 months expected duration to complete, working towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification. (All learning is delivered online/ remote).

Training Provider: LMP Education (rated 8th best UK training provider)

**Responsibilities**:
**MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

To work with teachers and therapists to encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development of pupils by providing assistance in educational activities as directed such as:

- Communication.
- Teaching and learning tasks across the curriculum.
- Development of good behaviour.
- Moving, handling and lifting pupils where necessary.
- Facilitating access to the curriculum through familiarisation with the necessary techniques and specialist equipment, notably ICT.
- Assisting in the hydrotherapy and swimming pools.
- Attending meetings and in-service training and development sessions as required.
- Assisting the devising, monitoring and assessing of individual education plans and targets
- Assisting the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtimes.
- Accompanying teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required.
- To assist in the efficient preparation and use of teaching materials and equipment.
- Maintaining, setting out and cleaning up materials, apparatus and equipment required for use by pupils and teachers.
- Making work cards, wall displays and other teaching aids.
- Keeping all areas tidy and presentable, taking particular care in toilet and wash areas.

To assist in ensuring that the personal and social needs of individual pupils are attended to such as:

- The postholder will be expected to toilet (including cleaning and changing if necessary), washing, dressing and feeding children as well as move and handle them and administer medication with appropriate training.
- To support physical needs, as and when necessary and undertake all activities involving their personal support. This includes hoisting, moving and handling, swimming and PE.
- Carrying out programmes of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy according to recommendation and with the approval of line managers.
- Fitting and adjusting any aids according to instruction e.g. hearing aids and orthotics.
- Ensuring that any properly delegated tasks or tasks that are voluntary e.g. medical ones such as the administration of medicines, are conducted in accordance with procedures.
- To be vigilant about possible child protection issues and report them accordingly.
- Escorting pupils in, around and out of school including supervising taxis and trips.
- Driving minibuses, where agreed at interview or subsequently.
- Supervising pupils before and after school and during breaks, including giving out, organising and participating in games and other leisure activities.
- Ensuring that pupils’ personal belongings accompany them around school and home as necessary.
- That all communications with home are known of, and approved by, the class teacher.
- To assist with physiotherapy, hydrotherapy or speech therapy under the direction of the appropriate specialist.
- To develop leisure opportunities and supervise pupils at break time and lunch time, developing their social relationships
