Paralegal needed to support Senior Counsel in renegotiating commercial contracts.
Location: London/Newbury (hybrid - no more than twice a week on-site)
Contract: Until March 2023
Rate: £25.00 per hour PAYE
Hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday
Job Overview
As a paralegal, you will contribute and drive the legal engagement on a range of strategic projects, which will impact Business customers. The support will be focused on projects that involve rationalisation and decommissioning; You will work alongside SeniorCounsel and Counsel in providing specialist and expert legal advice to a wide range of business stakeholders to support them in achieving business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Identifying risks resulting from the migration of customers to new services or of ceasing services
- Reviewing customer agreements, extracting relevant information and providing commercially pragmatic advice to the business on risks to help shape strategy
- Negotiating new agreements with customers to manage the transition from legacy to replacement products and services
- Working with the stakeholders to agree approach, design and implement mitigation steps against identified risks
- Liaison with the Regulatory teams, Commercial teams, Sales teams and UK Product Team as necessary to move customer from legacy services to alternatives
- Provision of legal support to the teams within UK Business Product and Transformation team.
- Maintaining effective contacts with relevant individuals in other key functions outside UK Business Product & Proposition Management
- Support other functions as necessary such as Regulatory, Commercial, Technology, Finance, Frameworks etc., influencing and assisting in discussions with such personnel to ensure the best legal solution to meet commercial objectives.
- Assisting in the training of teams on key legal issues arising out of the strategic projects.
- Idea generation and solution implementation to improve ways of working and knowledge sharing.
- Contributing to transformational projects and process improvement, demonstrating ability to constructively challenge the status quo and improve existing processes.
- Engaging with the wider UK Legal Team to share ideas, learnings best practice and document guidance notes/know-how.

Experience Needed
- University honours law degree or equivalent e.g. non-law degree and GDL
- Experience/Interest in working in a commercial in-house environment with the aptitude to quickly understand legal processes
- Good negotiation and influencing skills.
- Able to take ownership of projects and tasks and drive them to successful completion.
- Able to act under limited supervision when appropriate.
