We are looking for an experienced, organised and self-motivated individual to join our Highways Maintenance team based in Norwich. You should be knowledgeable in highway maintenance, construction or other related engineering environment.

The Highway Area teams are responsible for the client highway maintenance and streetworks functions for the County Council as highway authority. Key services include highway inspection and scheme identification, member and public interface, and supervision of all works affecting the public highway.

The Locality Designer provides technical support and design services working on small scale, locally important improvements.

We are looking for an organised and self-motivated person to join our highways maintenance team based in Norwich. You will need to have experience of highway design techniques, working in highway maintenance, construction or other engineering environment. This is a great opportunity to consolidate your highway engineering and maintenance knowledge and experience through a busy and challenging role in a highway area team. You will assist in developing solutions to maintenance problems and the provision of safe and efficient technical highway / civil engineering design and project delivery in a supporting role. This will enable the area team to deliver its programme of maintenance and improvement schemes.

You will play an important role as a member of the Highways area office team working with Norse and Tarmac in the delivery of the service. You will assist the area engineers to assess and design a range of highway related schemes including structural maintenance schemes,, local member and parish partnership to match agreed budget, resource and organisational requirements. You will ensure that schemes are ordered and implemented to agreed standards, procedures, specification, programme, legislation, time and budget.

The main duties involve providing technical support and design services for the Highway Engineers and area sector teams, designing and developing solutions to highway problems, and producing design documentation for highway schemes.

You will need to possess excellent communication skills in order to deliver high quality customer service as well as deal effectively with contractors and utility companies on site. You will be involved a wide range of highway maintenance and network management matters, supporting the Highway Engineer in developing solutions, supervising works, and providing first line responses to customer enquiries.

You will need to have:

- Experience of working in a highway maintenance and/or construction environment. (Essential)
- Experience of dealing directly with members of the public (Essential)
- Excellent communication and customer care skills
- Organised and methodical approach
- Self-motivated and able to prioritise workload effectively
- An understanding and knowledge of Health and Safety
- An understanding and knowledge of works ordering Inc. method of measurement Able to use own initiative, be flexible, multi-task over a range of activities and be able to work as part of a team.
