Operating in the client’s home and community, this role offers part-time and full-time opportunities, providing flexibility to fit your schedule.

Becky is 21 years old and lives with her mum who she has a very special bond with. She has three cats and two dogs. Becky loves to craft with beads and make cards for others. Becky enjoys helping with the cooking and eating meals together. Becky has mild cerebral palsy, she is autistic, has a learning disability and may display distress behaviours when dysregulated.

Due to the occupational requirements of the role we are seeking female only applicants.

Overview of role:
Your role will be to consolidate the skills she has already acquired and support her in new extracurricular activities outside college time and over the weekend and holidays. She does need continued but gentle prompting with self-help skills. Becky can communicate verbally and uses pictorial timetables and an emotions board. There will be days when she needs to have her own space, do drawing or watch cartoons on her iPad and other days when you can encourage her to join you in the kitchen to do some baking. Becky enjoys swimming, bowling and going out for meals.

You will bring to this role professionalism and experience with Autistic young people, be able to guide Becky through different emotions she maybe feeling and helping her to self-regulate. You must be bubbly and upbeat and have the sensibility to know when to step up and when to step back. Someone with a good sense of humour will get on well with Becky. Someone who is passionate about making a difference to a young person’s life. Someone who works well in a small team with a desire to develop and learn.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Empowerment and Independence: Support the client in developing and maintaining essential life skills, ensuring active participation in the community.

2. Relationship Building: Establish and maintain professional relationships with the service user, actively listening to their views and choices for full involvement in decision-making.

3. Risk Assessment: Contribute to the development and implementation of risk assessments, adhering to health and safety guidelines.

4. Enriching Lives: Encourage the client to lead a full life, fostering relationships and promoting independence and autonomy.

5. Community Engagement: Facilitate access to community and leisure activities, actively encouraging participation in various pursuits.

6. Team Collaboration: Work cohesively with the client’s family, care team, and other professionals to ensure the highest level of independence for the client.

7. Daily Planning: Assist in planning daily, weekly, and monthly activities, providing structure and routines for the client.

8. Therapy Support: Collaborate with other professionals during therapy sessions, assisting in post-therapy programs following expert advice.

9. Personal Care: Ensure personal care (mainly prompting), food hygiene, and medication needs are met with sensitivity and respect, in accordance with guidelines.

Essential:

- Previous support worker or care role experience
- Team player with excellent communication skills
- Understanding of confidentiality and privacy
- Patience, tolerance, responsibility, and initiative
- Proficient in IT
- Reliable, trustworthy, with a sense of humour
- Organised
- Willingness to learn and develop
- Like animals (two dogs and three cats are part of the household)

Desirable:

- Previous experience of working with autistic young people.
- Full driving license/car driver
- Experience in multi-disciplinary teamwork
- Experience with adults with complex needs and challenging behaviour

Hours:
7.00 am - 9.30 am Term time only (2 - 5 mornings a week)

10.00 am - 4.00 pm College holidays (up to 4 days a week)

2.30 pm - 9.00 pm evenings (2-5 evenings a week) - later start possible

10.00 am - 4.00 pm (weekends)

We are looking for support workers who can commit to at least two shifts a week up to 4 shifts a week. Would consider term-time only or holiday only workers.
