**Job Summary**: Working under the direct supervision of the nurses and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will undertake venepuncture on patients as required. Job Responsibilities: Carrying out the following tasks and procedures according to practice protocols and personal training, working within current level of competency Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the GP/nurse of any significant patient issues Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team Phlebotomy Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their consent to the collection of a blood sample Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures and as requested by a GP, ACP or secondary care Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity Checking patient identification against clinicians request and confirming with patient whenever possible Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion Centrifuging of samples as required daily Other duties Basic observation taking including height, weight, BP and ECGs When needed, visit patients in their own home to collect a blood sample for anticoagulation monitoring, in collaboration with the INR Nurse Cleaning and maintenance of surgery equipment Restocking of GP rooms Vaccine/cold chain storage recording under practice nurse supervision Assisting in stock taking and reordering in partnership with nurses Assisting in collection and interpretation of data for the improvement of patient care and services
