Epsom Primary and Nursery School has an exciting opportunity for a full time SEND Teaching Assistant to work with children who have a range of special educational needs and who attend our mainstream school or High Communication and Interaction Centre to start ASAP.
As part of your role, you will support the learning of students so that they can meet their full potential under the direction of a teacher and SENCo. This role will include working within the main stream school and Communication and Interaction Centre.
PURPOSE: To enable access to the curriculum and ensure outcomes are met by providing highly effective targeted provision, care and support for children with additional needs, throughout the school day as part of our High COIN Centre or within the mainstream environment.
**RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**
**Supporting Pupils**
- To support pupils’ well being and development, promoting independence in a safe, secure, challenging environment employing strategies to drive, facilitate and reward achievement
- To promote the inclusion of all pupils across the school
- To support the development of children’s social and emotional needs
- To support the learning of individuals and groups of pupils and to act as a role model, setting high expectations and promoting a positive attitude
- To prepare, plan, deliver and manage specific intervention programmes, adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses/needs
- To maintain positive and enjoyable break times and lunchtimes for pupils including organising and participating in physical games and activities
- To use agreed proformas to plan, track and assess pupil’s progress
- To focus on individual pupils to ensure their needs are being met within the group
- To work with other staff to develop and implement learning for pupils
- To encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others to develop interaction and communication
- To participate in pupils' play and extend and stimulate language through conversation
- To meet the physical/medical needs of pupils, including carrying out intimate and personal care/routines including catheterization, hygiene, dressing and eating as well as helping with the social, emotional, welfare and health matters.
**Support for Teachers**
- To read, discuss and follow teachers plans in order to support pupils and scaffold learning as appropriate
- To liaise with other professionals, and make reasonable adjustments to ensure an appropriate and engaging learning environment
- To promote home school partnerships for children with SEND by working collaboratively with them to maximise outcomes
- To listen, support and discuss issues sensitively with parents and carers under the teacher’s supervision and to participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents
- To monitor and evaluate pupil’s responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against targets
- To provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required to the teacher on pupil achievement progress and other matters ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence
- To be responsible for keeping and updating records as agreed with the teacher, contributing to reviews of systems/records as required
- In class to undertake marking of pupils work in line with the school marking policy if required
- To administer and assess routine tests and assist in the invigilation of SATs/tests as agreed with the teacher
- To work within the school behaviour policy to anticipate and manage behaviour constructively, promoting self-control and independence.
**Support for the Curriculum**
- To liaise with class teacher in order to prepare, plan and manage specific activities/teaching programmes,adjusting activities according to pupils’ responses/needs
- To set out and prepare equipment indoors and outdoors
- To implement learning strategies and make effective use of opportunities provided by learning activities to support the development of relevant skills
- To support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
- To help pupils access learning activities through specialist support, following advice from other professionals where appropriate
- To determine the need for, prepare and maintain general and specialist equipment and resources.
**Support for the School**
- To promote the policies and ethos of the school and to promote positive values, attitudes, and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
