An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Ophthalmology Department as Cataract Coordinator at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate competency in the use of computer packages, information systems. A strong background in an NHS outpatient/elective booking service would be advantageous, as would knowledge of national referral to treatment rules. The post holder will be expected to have excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise their workload; a caring disposition and a flexible approach are essential to this role. The ability to work to manage a challenging workload, work to deadlines and work as part of a team is essential.

- To ensure the smooth running of elective and day case cataract admissions. Ensuring all lists are fully utilised.
- To schedule theatre lists in liaison with patients, consultants and capacity.
- To ensure all appropriate pre-operative assessments have been carried out to allow theatre lists to run as planned.
- To manage/ validate a large waiting list and to assist in ensuring all patients are operated on within the maximum waiting time targets.
- Organising covid swabs either via drive through or home visits.
- Organising Best Interest meetings between Clinicians, patients and Carers.
- Ensure that patients are informed with reasonable notice in line with national RTT rules, and that all relevant paper work is completed for given admission dates. This includes ensuring that all elective attendances/admissions are promptly and accurately recorded on the appropriate PAS system(s)
- To ensure accurate and complete computer records are maintained for patients.
- To contribute to service developments.
- To ensure all patients are operated on within the maximum waiting time targets.
- Cancelling of any cataract lists and redating any patients the same day or within 24 hours of cancellation.
- Liaising with Admissions Team in relation to cataract pre-assessment clinics, ensuring full utilisation and management.
Following successful investment in the Ophthalmology Unit and expansion of the workforce, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cataract Coordinator to join the Ophthalmology Unit at Royal Bolton Hospital.
With an already strong and diverse multi disciplinary workforce consisting of managers, medical, nursing, Optometrists, allied health professionals and administrative personnel, you will be joining a forward thinking, dynamic and inclusive team.
The Ophthalmology unit offers a wide range of services, ranging from retinal, glaucoma, diabetes, oculoplastic, corneal, cataract, general, emergency services and ocular motility. The unit provides training to Junior Doctors and strives to be part of Research, Innovation and Quality Improvement.
