- Job description- Do you want to protect the lives, livelihoods, and environment of communities across East Anglia? Join our Area Incident Team and you’ll be at the heart of this work. Help us: plan, prepare, respond, recover, and review flood, environmental, and business continuity incidents.
We have 2 opportunities: 1 Flood and 1 Environment Management Incident Advisor. These roles will provide incident expertise on a range of incident planning and preparation activities. You will assist with training and exercising for incident role holders, rolling out changes and improvements to the way we do things. You’ll also be accountable for recruiting, guiding, and training for at least one incident role. Ensuring that role holders are capable and competent to respond.
Networking and partnership working is key to this role. You’ll be part of a national network of Incident Advisors and colleagues contributing to area business boards and Local Resilience Forums.
You’ll be trained to become an Area Base Controller, part of the team’s incident response role. This tactical leadership role manages the area incident response and maintains the area’s common operating picture. This also involves complying with reporting requirements and ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of responding staff. The team is building its capability towards providing this service during working hours.
The unpredictable nature of our work means you’ll need to be at ease re-prioritising and picking up unplanned incident response work at short notice.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity assistance during an incident. This may attract an additional payment. Full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to aid you with your incident role.
The team- Our team coordinates and assures incident management activity across the East Anglia Area. We are a relatively new team, continuing to establish ourselves.
Our dispersed team works across 2 operational areas. We cover several counties, primarily: Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Peterborough. The team follows a hybrid way of working between their local office and working from home. We co-locate in our offices or other locations for incident response and to jointly work on tasks.
- Experience/skills required- We are looking for people with knowledge and experience of incident management, and knowledge of the Environment Agency’s role in incidents. You will need to be agile and dynamic to situations, enabling you to continuously re-prioritise your work without losing sight of the long-term vision and our ambitions.
