**About us**:
Warrington Borough Council is recruiting to the post of Compliance Officer (Public Health) to promote compliance around the supply of nicotine containing products, including e-cigarettes (vapes), and the accessibility of these products for young people. Action on Smoking and Health report that in 2023 20.5% of children had tried vaping, up from 15.8% in 2022.

The successful applicant will be part of the Public Protection team within Warrington Borough Council. The Public Protection team have responsibility for a wide range of duties, including Trading Standards, Environmental Health, and Licensing.

**The role**:
The role will involve engaging with retailers and business owners to assist them to comply with controls on the supply of nicotine containing products. This will include preventing access to products by those who are underage, ensuring that products comply with appropriate safety legislation and that they meet other legislative requirements.

You may be involved in taking legal action, in line with the authority’s enforcement policy, where there is a failure to comply with appropriate legislation. This will include preparing case files for further legal action and may including giving evidence. The post holder will also be expected to assist with, and contribute to, test purchasing projects.

The role will also involve building links with colleagues and external partners, including Public Health, businesses and Cheshire Police. The post holder may be expected to participate in working groups and report and present to senior managers, elected members or businesses. The role will involve report writing and may involve delivering training sessions.

The post is 37 hours a week fixed term for 24 months. The post may require some work outside of normal office hours.

**What's needed?**:
The role would suit someone with experience of actively developing relationships with stakeholders, particularly someone with a regulatory or a compliance background. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate with a range of different people. Experience of engaging with external partners is beneficial, as is an understanding of the challenges caused by access to nicotine containing products.
