This is a part time role working 17.5 hours a week. Starting 18th March, initially for a 6 month contract that is likely to be extended. (Must be a car driver)

We’re seeking an experienced Conservation Officer to work in the Planning Policy Team in the Royal Borough’s Planning and Building Control service. You’ll be responsible for providing specialist advice and guidance on the full range of heritage matters, ensuring that the highest possible design standards are achieved within new development. In addition to providing advice to Development Management on all scales of proposals throughout the planning process, you’ll also manage a diverse listed building caseload, and provide technical and design advice to listed building occupiers and those in conservation areas.

The successful applicant will need to have an appropriate qualification in Building Conservation, Town Planning, Architecture or a related discipline. You’ll need to demonstrate a proven ability to make competent decisions on listed building and conservation area related matters, complemented by a good understanding of current legislation, policy, guidance and best practice in relation to planning and heritage matters.

Eligibility for membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) is desirable but not essential.
