Liverpool, United Kingdom University of Liverpool Full time

The University of Liverpool Particle Physics group is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on the ATLAS experiment.

The Liverpool ATLAS group makes extensive contributions in data analysis, detector operation and HL-LHC upgrade. Our physics programme includes Higgs boson studies, searches for SUSY, DM and Hidden Sectors, searches for Z¿, W¿, leptoquarks and charged lepton flavour violation, and precision W-mass and Drell-Yan measurements.

You will work closely with the Liverpool ATLAS Higgs group, taking a leading role in the Run 3 data analyses focused on one or more of the Higgs areas in which the group is active, including measurements of the SM Higgs boson properties and searches for Higgs boson pair production in final state events with b-jets and/or tau leptons. You are also expected to contribute to the development of methods and tools used for reconstruction and identification of physics objects relevant for their data analysis.

You must have a PhD in particle physics and experience in programming with C++ and python. You will have excellent communication skills and a good track record on independent particle physics analyses at the LHC. Experience in data analysis is required, while familiarity with machine learning techniques is desirable. Experience of work on reconstruction and identification of physics objects is also desirable.

The normal place of work will be in Liverpool, but frequent travel, in particular to CERN, will be required.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
