NURSERY PRACTITIONER- LUNCH time cover between 11:30am and 1:30pm/2:30pm

Scope of the Position

To work as a member of the nursery team to ensure that all children attending the setting receive high quality care, are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences which meet their individual needs.To comply with all legislation in relation to registration with regulatory bodies, special needs, child protection and health and safety.Key Responsibilities

Childcare and Education

Provide high standards of quality within the nursery including the environment, resources and experiences offered to children.Observe, support and extend children’s learning.Plan appropriately for children using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance.Maintain accurate and effective children’s records.Work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.Demonstrate good practice with regard to special needs and inclusion and support all team members to identify and support children who may have additional or special educational needs giving guidance and support where necessary.Work with Childcare and Education team to continuously improve quality of childcare and education.Ensure that children are kept safe and that staff understand, and when necessary follow, Child Protection Procedures.Ensure that the nutritional needs of the children are met and the Food Safety Regulations are complied with taking into consideration children with special dietary requirements whether through religious reasons, allergies or parental preference.Work with in-house SENCO, EYFS advisors, health professionals and local Sure Start programmes as appropriate.Comply with the statutory framework for the EYFS or relevant statutory regulations for Scotland and Wales, relevant legislation including the Children Act 1989 and 2004.A good understanding of British Values and the Prevent Duty and how they are promoted within a nursery setting.Develop and maintain highly professional working relationships with advisory teachers, schools, and other agencies that may visit the setting.Learn about current developments in childcare and education policy and practice.Be a key person carrying out all related responsibilities in building relationships with a small group of children and their families.Health and Safety

Undertake a shared responsibility for health, safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery.Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times.Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures.Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures e.g. fire precautions, security, dropping off and collecting of children.Operate the highest standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the bedding and nappy changing area and food surface areas.Carry out daily risk assessments to ensure all areas both indoors and outdoors are safe for children to access highlighting any areas for concern and adding to the risk assessment as and when appropriate.Operational

Promote the nursery to current parents and potential customers.Work with the Manager and inspectors during inspections by regulatory bodies and to assist in the implementation of any recommendations.Attend any training and development as and when required to ensure up-to-date knowledge of all regulations and requirements to deliver a high quality service.To be involved in out of working hours activities, e.g Summer Fair, Christmas Party etc.To ensure all children’s records and documentation is kept up to date and accurate to include planning, learning journeys, accident and incident forms and any other documentation that is relevant to a child’s learning and development or welfare.Staff

Work as a team with other staff members.Ensure that care is provided between the hours of 8am and 5.30pm ensuring fairness and consistency for all staff.Support and mentor students.Be responsible for participating in all self-development activities including appraisals, supervisions etc.Ensure children are offered outdoor play on a daily basis putting out equipment for them to play with and tidying it away at the end of the day.Communication

Develop and promote parental partnership and involvement.Ensure good communication between all users of the nursery.Maintain communication links with outside agencies.To support each other and work as a team to ensure a smooth and efficient service is provided.To maintain confidentiality with regard to all childrens’ and families information at all times.General

Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested by line management.Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
