**Summary**:
Security, Policy and Operations (SPO) is an area of the Ministry of Defence Head Office that provides policy advice to Ministers on security and operational matters as well as strategic direction to our Armed Forces.

Our mission in the Directorate of Security and Resilience (DSR) within Sec Pol & Ops is to support the delivery of Defence outputs by protecting our people, assets and information in the UK and overseas. DSR is responsible for setting resilience and security policy for Defence and provides advice on how to counter and mitigate the key threats and hazards faced by Defence from a wide range of threats including hostile state actors, terrorist organisations and serious and organised crime groups.

DSR is looking for an individual who can build relationships and use these to continuously to improve the training offer to security professionals as well as providing some support to baseline security training aimed at the wider department. Experience of operating with or within a Defence environment would be beneficial but not essential. No security experience is required, but experience of managing training courses is essential.

This position is advertised at 36/37 hours per week terms and conditions dependent.

**Job description**:
DSR owns all pan-Defence Security Profession training courses, with an SCS1 responsible as the Training Requirement Authority (TRA) Head for all courses. Each course has a TRA Lead representing the TRA Head. The TRA Leads are assisted by the Defence Security Training Coordination Lead who is responsible for assisting in representing training requirements at the Customer Executive Board (CEB). The CEB acts as a cohering mechanism for demand and supply of training courses through liaison between training providers, training development authorities (TDAs), course designers and the MOD's Front line Commands and Top-Level Budgets. This is an important role which contributes towards the governance, standards and policy setting for all pan-Defence security training; it ensures the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) is applied appropriately to all security courses and leads on an exciting and innovative programme of transformation of security training in Defence.

A near-term activity will be to align current training solutions with the Government Security Profession Career Framework (GSPCF). DSR is taking the lead in promoting a centralised approach to establishing security training requirements across the MOD.

- Ensure Training Providers and course designers have a current and relevant picture of the outcomes required from security courses.
- Liaise with Training Providers and business units to understand demand and prioritise scarce training capacity.
- Act as the primary link to Training Providers to ensure security needs are understood and issues resolved from a supply perspective.
- Support the SCS1 Security Training Requirements Authority Head (TRA) in providing governance and oversight for all pan-Defence security training courses, including keeping up to date with the delivery and uptake of training against the statement of training requirements (SOTR).
- Establish an effective external evaluation process to monitor effectiveness of security training, providing feedback to Training Providers to improve security training outcomes.
- Work with security training course owners to ensure Defence Systems Approach to Training is followed to provide the best outcome-based description of course needs for Training Providers.
- Support the Defence Security Profession Lead in identifying and progressing opportunities for improving the training offer to security professionals and wider MOD audiences.
- Deputise for the Defence Security Profession Lead where appropriate.
