We are recruiting 4 Senior User Researchers to join our vibrant team. The User Research team sits within User Centred Design (UCD) team, and we are well established in DDTS.

We have regular UCD and User Research Communities of Practice and meet ups, enabling you to feel deeply embedded in the team and providing opportunities to collaborate across Defra. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team and will have the support of the programme that you are assigned to as well as the direct support of a Lead User Researcher.

**Responsibilities**
- Engage with programmes to understand strategic objectives, goals and complex problems
- Lead user research across large and complex programmes of work - leading user research planning workshops and writing user research plans
- Lead user research activities including recruitment, preparing research materials, conducting research using a range of methods and analysis
- Advocate the needs of all users and promote inclusive research and design
- Communicate and present user research findings and ensure that user needs are embedded in future sprints and designs
- Encourage team involvement throughout the user research lifecycle
- Collaborate across programmes and across government where relevant
- Mentor and guide more junior User Researchers
- Contribute to the user research community - including presenting at meetups, writing blog posts, and leading on aspects of practice
- Work to the Government Service Standards, assuring adherence throughout user research and both presenting and assessing at service assessments

**Skills and Experience**
- Experience of advocating for user research and engaging sceptical colleagues and stakeholders
- The ability to include all kinds of users in appropriate research activities to help teams understand the diversity of users of government services
- Experience of helping teams to adopt user centred service design and delivery practices and embed them into their agile workflow
- The ability to understand complex problems a team is trying to solve and align user research activities to inform decision making and action
- Experience of helping teams adopt a wide range of user research methods, analysis and synthesis techniques and approaches to presenting and sharing findings
- An understanding of the social and technological context for government services, and experience of aligning user research activities to help teams understand changing user behaviour
