**About The Role**

Youth Justice Officers play a key role within Hounslow Youth Justice Service, with the successful applicants able to contribute their ideas and experience to shape the work undertaken with children. You will be an experienced Youth Justice worker who is passionate about working with and making a difference for the diverse community of children and young people in Hounslow. You’ll have a strong understanding of effective practice and always take a Child First approach and trauma informed approach, whether this undertaking prevention work, carrying out assessments, presenting at panels, writing reports for courts or the community panel, planning and then delivering interventions.

Working with children, communities and families is never a 9-5 job, and the post requires the ability to work flexibly, including some evenings and occasional weekends. **About The Team You’ll Be Working In**

The aim of the Youth Justice Service (YJS) is to prevent offending by children and young people. The Team is made up of multi-agency professionals from the Police, the Probation Service, Education and Health Service. The Youth Justice Service works to both prevent children becoming involved in offending and children who have offended; the Team undertake assessments to better understand the reasons for each child’s behaviour and the level of risk of each child’s risk of reoffending, risk to others and a child’s own safety and well-being. The team works closely with Youth and Crown Courts providing direct support to magistrates and judges Court Duty and providing Pre-Sentence Reports to help magistrates and judges decide on the appropriate outcomes for children. The Team provides individual and groupwork interventions to children on Out of Court Disposals, on court bail, Community and Custodial Sentences.

The Youth Justice Service is co-located with other Teams undertaking work with adolescents, enabling close, collaborative work to be undertaken.

**Role Profile**

The key responsibilities of the role of Youth Justice Worker are:

- To have a good knowledge of child and adolescent development, the factors that place children at risk of offending and evidence-based practice that leads to good outcomes for children, families and the community.
- Able to take a Child First, developmental approach which takes account of disproportionality, trauma and the diverse needs of children in Hounslow.
- Able to write reports and develop intervention plans, based on your robust assessments, deliver effective strength-based interventions and respond to rapidly changing circumstances.
- Have an understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities, anti-discriminatory practice and able to put this into practice in the context of this post.
- Able to contribute to your own and the Service’s development, by working positively with colleagues in the Service and across organisations to ensure joined-up, consistent practice, whilst looking for opportunities to improve outcomes for children and families.
