. Patient/Clinical Care To manage your clinical caseload with autonomy, guided by policies, procedures, codes of practice and departmental working practices. To document and formulate a comprehensive programme of care, including decision making about the most appropriate treatment options. This may be for patients with a wide range of diagnoses who will need regular updates to ensure the optimum therapeutic outcome. To supervise less experienced staff and students in the provision of patient care. To provide planned and spontaneous advice to service users, staff, relatives and carers.

To have specialist physical skills for the treatment of patients. This may involve the use of specialist equipment and orthotics to support function and activities of daily living. To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with professional and local standards. To frequently exert physical effort in sustained postures for periods of up to 40 minutes following safe moving and handling skills.

With every patient, concentration is required to actively listen, observe, evaluate, document and plan on information gathered. To deal with distressing or emotional situations, such as dealing with service users and relatives who are experiencing an acute or terminal illness and those experiencing ongoing deterioration. To implement all aspects of the trusts infection control policy. There may be exposure to patient bodily fluids, odours and dust whilst delivering treatment sessions.

To play a key role in the coordination of tasks with other agencies, such as discharge planning and case management meetings. 3. To participate in service development through participation in the evaluation of clinical practice through evidence-based projects, audit and outcome measures, and attendance at local and national meetings. 4.

To be responsible for the day-to-day safe and competent use of equipment used by patients and staff in work and to be aware of financial consequences of actions. 5. To be involved in the development of local policies and procedures relevant to the area of work. To participate, as appropriate, in working parties proposing policy changes across the trust.

6. To contribute to the safeguarding of patients and families. Communication and relationships 1. To communicate effectively with patients, carers and relatives to progress specific rehabilitation and treatment programmes.

This will include providing and receiving complex information using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication skills to support those who may be dysphasic, living with dementia, depressed, visually impaired, hard of hearing, or unable to accept their diagnosis. 2. To communicate with a range of professionals within the trust and in external agencies, including primary care, social services, and voluntary organisations. 3.

To make presentations to groups and individuals as required. 4. To be involved in the management of patients and relatives who may be unhappy within your caseload or the caseload of your supervisee. 5.

To provide training to your own discipline, other professionals and students as required. Governance 1. To work within the standards of professional practice as described by the professional body. To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through postgraduate training and CPD in the specialist area.

2. To access guidance, including clinical, peer and managerial, as required from colleagues within the organisation or other expert agencies. 3. To record and store patient related information in electronic and confidential systems.

4. When working in the community, such as on therapy visits, work as a lone practitioner within the lone worker policy guidelines. 5. To participate in multi-disciplinary audit and take an active part in research projects at a local, regional, or national level.

6. To maintain and develop specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice in the area of work. 7. To be actively involved in improvements to service delivery 8.

To undertake staff appraisals as appropriate.
