**Reporting to: Policy and Performance Manager**

**Purpose of the Role**

This role sits within the Planning and Performance team. The key functions covered by this team are Train Planning, Delay Attribution, Access planning, and Performance measurement.

The Train Planning team is involved with planning both commercial freight as well as Network Rail services (SCO and IM). Train planning are tasked with delivering robust and cost-effective plans within tight time windows.

Within this role, you will have interaction with many parts of Colas Rail and outside bodies, for example
- Network Rail
- Customers
- Senior Management
- Train operations teams
- Driver Rostering
- Locomotive Planning
- Engineering Access
- Commercial
- Finance

Working within a smaller operator, you will be given the opportunity to expand your knowledge and widen your skill base.

**Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability**
- Work collaboratively with Network Rail Train Planners to ensure the business achieves optimum trailing loads and train timings in order to deliver excellent service to our customers.
- Undertake Ad Hoc timing requests for one off and potential new traffic as required.
- Progress any agreed late notice possessions by Network Rail, informing the Commercial Contracts team of any impact on Customer services.
- Produce the PDNS Statement to Network Rail ensuring Colas Rail¿s existing WTT paths are protected, and any changes (including RSB paths) are included into the relevant Working Timetable.
- Undertake weekly WON Check to ensure all disruption by Network Rail Engineering Work is accounted for each week.
- Make a strong contribution to your team and support your colleagues across the division to gain and develop your experience.
- As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any reasonable duties as required.

**Person Specification**
- Demonstrate an interest to be part of the Rail Industry and Colas Rail
- Have a desire to solve problems, and improve things
- Good communication skills
- Excellent railway geographical knowledge
- Thorough knowledge of Network Rail train planning rules, and engineering access statements
- Thorough knowledge of IT systems including;
- Microsoft Office
- Trust / Tops
- Train Planning System (TPS)
- Possession Planning System (PPS)
- Train Planning Rules
- Work independently using your own initiative where required and have a flexible approach to working hours.
