**Main Purpose of Job**

The Humanitarian, Migration and Food Security Directorate (HMFD) of the FCDO works to deliver the UK’s enduring commitment as a global leader in humanitarian action; drives FCDO’s work to promote safe, orderly and regular migration, leads UK efforts towards a mine-free world and works to prevent global hunger, build resilient and sustainable food systems and secure more effective and transparent land governance.

**Job description**:
**Roles and Responsibilities**
- ** Work closely with others in the Crisis Resilience team **to develop policy options for scaling up system wide early and anticipatory action with a focus on expanded development, international financial institutions (IFI) and climate funding, particularly in FCAS, and to ensure coherence across our engagement.
- ** Influence and engage with key external partners** to support and drive UK policy goals at a global level, including other Member States/donors, UN agencies, NGOs, the Red Cross, partnerships and think tanks. Proactively identify and manage a forward look of external engagement opportunities that are strategically aligned with key priorities and** **ensure that we are delivering on UK policy priorities.
- ** Develop and maintain a strong network**: work collaboratively with other parts of HMFD and other FCDO departments, such as those working on Food Security, Climate, and Research to influence and inform policy development in support of UK humanitarian objectives. Work with UK posts overseas and regional directorates to ensure policy is informed by experience on the ground and that posts are aware of and supported to deliver policy goals.
- ** Build capability**:Work with others, including Heads of Profession/Research and Evidence Directorate to strengthen capability across the department, including among expert advisers, to deliver policy based on evidence of what works.
- ** Provide high quality, accessible and timely technical advice** to senior officials and Ministers, and to the wider HMFD team on your lead areas and wider policy issues under the Prevent pillar of the Humanitarian Framework as required.
- ** Provide briefing and maintain core script on crisis resilience** humanitarian policy for Ministers and other engagements.
- ** Guide programme design and delivery**: strong understanding of the evidence of what works and previous experience of managing resilience focused investments to strengthen resilience is relevant.
- ** Support initiatives across Humanitarian and Migration Directorate** as they arise.
- ** Contribute to an inclusive and supportive working environment** that facilitates well-being and effective performance across the Group.

Occasional travel to UK offices or our overseas network may be required.

**Minimum Criteria**

Technical understanding and previous experience of working on two or more of the following:

- climate resilience and adaptation;
- building resilience and reducing humanitarian need in protracted and recurring crises, including through preventing, mitigating and anticipating shocks
- Approaches to food security, agriculture, livelihoods, nutrition, social protection or basic services that can strengthen resilience;
- humanitarian policy and programming, including anticipatory action;
