Together, our scientist, technologists, engineers and business support team explore the unknown and turn what they find into work that changes the world around us. Whether it’s sending probes into space or finding new ways to treat cancer, everyone here plays a vital role in making a positive difference to society.

Come and discover how much you can achieve when you’re surrounded by world-leading experts, encouraged to constantly learn and empowered to explore your curiosity.

RAL Space is an integral part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council's (STFC). RAL Space carries out world-class space research and technology development with involvement in over 210 space missions. We work alongside the UK Space Agency who co-ordinate UK civil space activities. We also work in collaboration with international space Agencies and are mostly involved in projects that support the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA missions; although RAL Space also works on projects with other countries and organisations around the world.

The Quality Assurance and Safety group (QASG) oversees the implementation and certification of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, BS EN9001 and ECSS-Q-ST-20-07C) and all necessary activities to achieve safe working conditions compliant with legislation and the STFC safety codes.

As QA Specialist you will support the maintenance of our Quality Management Systems and provide QA input for the handover, commissioning and operations of new test facilities, including the National Satellite Testing Facilities (NSTF) which will increase the UK’s testing capability for space hardware. The Senior role (Band E) will also contribute to the development and implementation of working practices that meet Quality and space industry requirements.

You must be capable of thorough and conscientious work to tight deadlines across multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to changing priorities as the need arises. The work of the QA team involves liaison with multiple teams, so effective oral and written communication skills are essential when dealing with managers, engineers and scientists within STFC and with external stakeholders.
