Bristol, United Kingdom South Gloucestershire Council Full time

**How you'll make a difference**:
South Gloucestershire Council provides support to those in the community who are disabled, have learning difficulties, experience of care, homelessness, and other vulnerable groups. We know that these issues effect young people just as they do adults. It is crucial that the lived experience and voice of young people are front and centre of our discussions, so that their diverse views, experience, and ideas influence our work to continuously deliver outcomes.

We know there are so many young people in South Gloucestershire with experience we can learn from. We are seeking to recruit two young people (aged 18 to 25) from varied backgrounds, who can provide vital insight into the lives of young people in and around South Gloucestershire. You will also have the opportunity to share your experiences of Council services.

As a Young Ambassador, you will be able to influence planning and decision making at all levels of the Council, representing our younger members of the community, and helping to make positive changes for young people.

**What will you be doing?**

What you will do depends on you as your specific skills, experience and motivations will shape how you will influence South Gloucestershire Council.
- It will be key for you to directly support Council colleagues to involve young people in key decision-making processes.
- You will attend meetings and speak with colleagues about different projects to speak up for young people and provide a young person’s perspective.
- It will be your responsibility to listen to other young people’s views and experiences, and to feed this back to council staff to ensure voices are heard.
- Working alongside other council colleagues, you will assist with the creation of training exercises for staff to provide further understanding of young people.
- You will help to create digital campaigns and messages to promote awareness of young people in the area.
- You will be provided support to champion diversity, equality and inclusion, and to challenge colleagues when necessary.

**What we need from you**:

- You will have genuine respect and value for other’s views, beliefs, identities and backgrounds.
- You will need to be willing to share your experiences and make a difference for children and young people.
- You must have good communication skills, either independently or with support and be sufficient with basic computer skills or be willing to learn.
- Whilst this is not a requirement of the role, if you are LGBTQ+, BAME, a care leaver, have a disability, or have experience of other vulnerable and underrepresented groups, this would provide greater insight into the more diverse members of our younger community.

Applicants must be aged 18-25 and live in (or have a strong links to) South Gloucestershire.
