Crowthorne, United Kingdom Wellington College Full time

Set in 400 acres of beautiful parkland and just one hour from central London, Wellington College is one of the world’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools, with an enviable reputation for excellence and innovation, and home to over 1100 pupils and 190 teaching staff. We are now looking for an inspiring individual with exceptional pastoral instincts and experience to join us as the HM of Combermere House, a 13-18 House of 66 girls. The Combermere has earned an outstanding reputation for pastoral care and enjoys a commanding position in the centre of College, complete with superb in-House facilities and its own garden for the girls.

Central to the success of this role in our pastoral provision is for the HM to have a deeply informed understanding of the particular pastoral, academic and emotional needs of 13-18 year old girls; the ability to help sustain a values-led culture including as new pupils start to be welcomed to the House on in the run-up to September 2024; and to embody the strengths which will underpin the continued growth of Combermere House in the next phase of its history.

The College prides itself on the outstanding levels of pastoral support we offer our pupils. At the heart of our pastoral network are our 17 current Houses, where we seek to create a place of support, stimulation and sanctuary for every boarding and day Wellingtonian. Every House is led by an HM, supported by a resident Assistant HM, along with a team of tutors and domestic staff, whose focus is on the safety, wellbeing and holistic development of the pupils in their care. Supporting these Houses is a team of colleagues who are experts on all aspects of physical, mental and social health.

Responsible for the all-round welfare of every pupil, we rely on HMs to encourage and inspire members of their House not just to achieve excellence in academic and co-curricular activities, but to develop their character and values too. Indeed, your leadership will be central in helping the pupils grow into confident, mature and caring young people.
