Based at QMC this role requires an enthusiastic, committed person to be part of a diverse, tightly knit team who work well together. You will be able to work well within defined timeframes.

Flexibility in your approach to day to day business is required as the daily demands are very fluid. Ensuring you adhere to Trust & local Policies and Procedures, you will also support other team members.

The post holder will provide a public face to Healthcare Professionals within all areas of the Trust. The role will be to work under the direction of the Logistics Team Leader and is primarily concerned with the collection, sorting and delivery of post & parcels in the most efficient and effective way, using the correct lifting and handling equipment.

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out a high quality service from designated destinations as directed, maintaining high standards of service delivery and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff and visitors at all times.

Main duties of the job

The Post Room is the hub of activity for anything and everything connected to mail, both external and internal and the franking of mail happens here

Couriers and colleagues come by to deliver mail and parcels which have to be sorted and processed within strict time lines.

This role involves engaging with all who visit the Post Room in a polite and courteous manner as you will be the front facing team.

Using the pigeon hole system you will be trained in all aspects of the sorting of mail for delivery around QMC.

You will contribute to the team’s efforts in service delivery and carrying out any changes in order to provide the continuous service.

You will be visible to the public, staff, visitors and patients on a daily_ _basis_._

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To adopt a flexible approach in response to operational needs regarding duties and hours of work.

To be a point of contact for the Post Team for agencies, departments & couriers to drop off mail and parcels.

To liaise with departments and colleagues face to face and over the telephone to help with any queries

To sort mail using the pigeon hole system within defined time lines ready for delivery or collection

Deliver mail and parcels to wards, departments and clinical areas on a daily basis.

Assist staff with other Duties

Report and relay any issues to the Team Leader

Safe use of equipment and appropriate use of complex equipment following all Standard Operating Procedures ad Risk Assessments

Undertake the cleaning your own work area.

Demonstrate your own activities to new or less experienced employees, supporting induction and training of colleagues.

Undertake any other duties that may be reasonable requested as appropriate to the grade.

Experience

Essential criteria
- Ability to use electronic devices e.g. IPhone devices for receiving jobs
- Experience in the safe use of electric vehicles ie., hand held tugs and sit on electric vehicles

Desirable criteria
- Significant experience in relation to working in a health care setting.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- Good basic level of secondary education
- Knowledge and understanding of a range of working practices and procedures providing a Logistic Service eg., knowledge of hospital layout, equipment requirements, manual handling etc.
